Mikey's Build Thread...

Very good choice! I've had mine now for about 4k miles. I love the way it sounds.

Yeah I must say it is not noticeable during regular driving but get on it when driving down the highway and oh boy, there is the intake sound. Lot quieter then my 350z was with the dual pop chargers.

Nice.

Seat of the pants gain? Feedback?

Why'd you choose that over the competition?

Seat of the pants gain.....not much there. The best part of it was the computer reset. Get in and drive to the gas station, fill up, and poof 450 miles till empty. Say what! Yeah its a show it will be back to normal in the next tank.

Chose the aFe because it is sealed (which the TRD is also) and the ease of replacing the filter. The TRD one the whole top has to come off, which means disconnecting hoses and clamps. The aFe its a few screws and you got access.

I also like the easier access to the filter. I also like that it has a dry filter. One issue with oiled filters (I had K&N for 17yrs) is that the oil vapors can degrade rubber and plastic parts over time, especially if over oiled after cleaning. Not a big issue but you need to check them from time to time.

The throaty sound seems to kick in around 3400 rpm and gives a slight improvement in acceleration in that range, or it could be just that the sound makes it seem quicker.

I did get the one with the oiled filter and will get a dry filter when this one gets dirty. I will kept the oiled one for a spare and for when cleaning the other.

I agree it seems to have a little bit of extra kick in that range.

OK, confusion time...

Mine is the same part #, is marked pre-oiled and is blue as is yours. However, the box and/or packing that the filter was in was marked, dry - do not oil. I have since tossed the packaging and can't triple check it. Time for some research.

Mike, if you still have the packaging for the filter can you check it and see what yours is marked?

thanks

Also, did you install the trapezoidal plug that faces the front of the truck? I installed mine but have no idea what it's purpose is.

The big box said pre oiled, but the filter box doesn't say anything just a part number and that it is not for individual sale.

That little plug i did put in, for everyday driving, but will probably take it out for wheeling. If you take it out more air can flow into the box at one time, granted some will be from the warm/hot engine compartment.

Next week or so should be full of changes. Just sent out a set of headlights to LightWerkz to get retroed. Should hopefully be getting my bumper soon. And thinking about ordering my GOBI rack. I am so gitty.

How difficult is this install? Don't know too much about working on cars but I'm not totally clueless either.

Lights are done and being sent on their way back. Information courtosey of LightWerkz....

Mike sent over his 2010 Toyota 4Runner headlights for a top of the line bixenon projector conversion. The OEM FX45 Bixenon projectors were used on this conversion along with the TSX-R Clear lens swap for maximum performance. The Iris shrouds were used for a clean and simple look to the conversion. These headlights are being powered by OEM Philips D2S bulbs, OEM Denso ballasts, and a plug and play wiring harness. Additional Koito butyl rubber sealant was used to provide maximum protection against debris and water.

Lights are on the truck. Install is straight forward (one hiccup on my part....red wire to red wire). Compliments to Cesar and the gang at LightWerkz for a great product and quick turn around. Output is amazing and the look is just what I wanted...stock looking.

Next Mod is coming up....getting rid of the chrome door handles. Ordered the Canadian SR5 door handles that are painted. Oh and still waiting on the bumper.
