mileage for a full tank

I have been told that the hot weather one goes faster due to the decrease moisture content in the air. makes sense I use unleaded.

I have a V8,

When I fill up it ranges around 354 (sometimes I overfill and I can get around 362 or so)



Ive never ran out of gas, but I wonder how many miles I can get after it registers 0 on the computer. Usually the light comes on at 21 miles, and Ive easily driven 5 or so miles when its at 0. but I wonder how long I can go....

most posts seem to say that 3 gallons are left in the tank when the light comes on.

I just fueled at 395 with more than an 1/8 less than a 1/4 remaining. The computer said I had 60 miles to empty. Once full it displayed 410 miles to empty. As I drive the trip meter 'A' will rack up the miles faster than the range display goes down.

do you all think it is the cold weather that causes less mileage? and more mileage when it warmer? is everyone using 87 octane? does that have any affects?

Yes, in the winter months gas is formulated differently to help with emissions. Good for the air, bad for your mileage. Also, when the ambient temps are down, your car will run a richer mixture for a longer time until your car warms up.

And "burping" another 1.6-2 gallons of gas into the tank after the pump has clicked off is a great way to flood the EVAP emissions charcoal canister, and set a CEL.(EVAP canisters are not too cheap either) Always a good idea to stop fueling when the pump clicks off. Just my .02

Good point, I always fuel and drive-off at least 1-2 gallons immediately because of what you're saying AND to jam fuel in there and park it in the sun is just unsafe. The engineers put in room for expansion for a reason.
