mileage for a full tank

I've got a 2004 V6 4WD and display shows an expected 410 range. I normally don't wait till it's near empty to fill up though...

my display generally says what everybody else's does; 410+, but i just filled up with the gas light on and had gone only 300 miles! I'm assuming that once the gas light comes on, you have about 3 gallons left, which gives me about 15mpg. Thats not very good

I have a 2004 V8. So far mileage is terrible. Been saving my gas receipts and calculated the last 3 tanks at 14 - 15 mpg.
I know it's winter time and some say mpg suffers... but is it normally that low?
I'm going to do a few things to see if it helps.
I just cleaned my MAF yesterday. I will be changing out the fluids on my diffs and my transfer case.
Anything else I should do?

I just purchased the vehicle about 2 weeks ago (used). I have not been able to secure the service records, so I'm just going to go ahead and get it done.achen said:
A neighbor of mine is an Amsoil dealer, so he's getting me the diff oil. I just picked up the crush washers from the dealership. My local oil change place (who I've been taking cars to for years) will go ahead and change the fluids for me.

Pure highway driving (non-stop) 430 mi range when light goes off plus few miles to nearest gas stop (with 4WD off). I use 89 octane gas on 4.0 V-6. Funny thing is: I been driving on street stop+go for last 3 month and my milage ranges from 340 to 380 miles, which realy sux. I guess our 4Runners do not like to idle.

I have an '03 V8 and recently did a trip to Atlanta and back from the DC area. I ran with cruise on most of the time, at an average speed of 65 to 70. I was able to get an actual (measured, not based on the computer) mileage of 386 miles on one tank of gas. I probably would have made 400, but chickened out due to the distance to the next exit.
With 4WD off and the same circumstances, a V6 could reasonably expect to get 430 or more on a tank.

I just fueled at 395 with more than an 1/8 less than a 1/4 remaining. The computer said I had 60 miles to empty. Once full it displayed 410 miles to empty. As I drive the trip meter 'A' will rack up the miles faster than the range display goes down.

WOW... I wish I could say the same. I'm getting crappy gas mileage (13-15mpg).spyne said:
I just changed my diff and transfer fluids (not sure if that will help). I have about 75k miles. Maybe I should change out the plugs as well. Not sure what else I can do to increase gas mileage. Hopefully it will get better (as many state) once warn weather hits us.

During the summer months I was easily getting 370 and more when my light came on on my 07 V6 SE. now during winter if I feather the pedal and am conscientious I can get 330. seems to me rain, wind and using 4WD all work against mileage and added with the more humid air I have trouble getting more. I added the Pirelli Scorpions during late summer and that seemed to lower it by about 0.5 mpg not all that much considering the traction I gained.
