Miss fire under load

02 4Runner, 201,000 miles. Last Thursday the problem started. See pics of two plugs I took out, do these look ok or bad? Also if it's a coil problem would that throw a code? The CEL light is not on. My plans are to get new plugs in it tomorrow and if that doesn't fix it put the coils off my sons 01 to see if that fixes it. Take off going through gears it will miss fire, when up to speed it smooths out but if you get on gas it will start again. Any thoughts?

I did a search and found this which is very helpful.
And I did clean the MAF with MAF cleaner yesterday.

Those plugs look pretty bad, I'd agree thats the problem.
Have you been experiencing less than decent gas mileage as well?

Whether they are the problem or not those plugs need to be changed. They are at maybe double the recommended life or more. Change them and inspect each one. Any one that looks different may clue you to a fuel, spark or compression problem on that cylinder so keep track of where they came from.

Then see how it drives. A true misfire, due to coil or anything else, should set a code (P030x). I can't explain why yours doesn't, but sometimes it takes a while.

Mine looked about like that when I changed them ~ 15K miles ago. I changed plugs and wires, took care of my shudder completely.

Have the plugs ever been changed? Also, replace the fuel filter if it has been awhile. A restricted filter will cause misfire under load.

Thanks guys, changed the plugs today and it runs like new. I bought it with 190k on it as a trade in so I know nothing about previous maintenance.
