missing shroud

so I learned today that my truck is missing a part, wonder how critical it is

if it can aide my cooling, ( not having an issue)
then maybe I should get one

It's more to protect the fan from objects than anything else. Probably a good idea.

I'd spring for the $20+ to get one. Like [MENTION=115347]gamefreakgc[/MENTION] said, it is there for protection but also helps in cooling.

Mine has been missing years since body lift install. Radiator fan barely was hitting it.

Not only does it protect fan but it's also for directing the airflow to the radiator.

The shroud is designed to make the full use of the giant radiator. Without the shroud, the fan will pull air ONLY through a size of its radius. With the shroud, it can pull air even from the edges of the radiator.

Here is how to check: Get about inch by inch paper and place it at any edge of the radiator core (yes, the AC condenser is there, so keep it on the AC condenser). With the engine running; without the shroud, the paper will fall and with the shroud, it will not.

The 4th gen 4runner got the best shroud to pull more air through the radiator.

You'll get better AC with the shroud than without.

Sure you should have it on. Sure it might protect fan from getting hit from the bottom with stuff.

But I don't think its as important as the bigger shroud.

That lower piece is removable so you can take out the fan shroud and or the radiator + shroud without taking the fan off...
Take the lower piece off and you can pull the radiator straight up and out.

I'm going to order it, even with all the work I just did, I still think my temps are a bit on the high side, maybe that will help, or maybe I am being over reactive

I'd get the shroud. More air flow.
