Difference between radiator for auto vs. manual trans?

Does anyone know if there are any differences between 3rd gen radiators for a manual vs. automatic trans?

I am shopping for a new radiator and some options specifically mention they are for automatics. Camelback lists the same number for auto and manual so I am a bit confused?

I have read through most of the info on radiators but if anyone has any up to date experience I would love to hear it. There is an all aluminum option

The "new" part numbers from toyota as linked above are half the price they used to be but potentially lesser quality?

People seem to have shipping/packaging issues with the options available on Amazon.

The rads for automatics have a transmission cooler on the bottom.

It's difficult to find one specifically for a manual.
Most with a manual buy a rad for an auto and plug the cooler ports.

Manuals have no need to cool transmission fluid so the lower part of the radiator does not have the oil cooler. It will still fit fine though if you cannot find an alternative. You do want to cap the fittings though, since if it were to ever leak you don't want to lose all your coolant.

I dont see manual rads anymore. They have the auto's as the replacement. The problem with that is they hang 2" lower & can get in the way of your skid plate. If you look at Tacoma rads they have 3 different sizes. I'm assuming the smallest one is for a manual but I haven't researched this enough yet to confirm. My aftermarket skid is for a manual Taco & I had to use spacers so it wouldn't hit my A/T replacement rad.

Side note: do people ever worry about the cooling fan when going into any sort of water? The P.O. installed some flex lite fans and I had one of the blades crack and slash open my radiator when I drove through a large puddle. Nothing crazy deep either but I never even gave this a thought until it was too late and my coolant was all over the ground

Its a little late for this now, but you should have a switch to disable electric fans for fording water. Fixed engine fans should also be disabled (belt removed, generally - applicable to much older trucks).

The stock fan has a clutch system that should generally be ok in water (it will slow down with all that drag).

Yup, my Polaris Ranger has a switch that shuts down the fan...however, I always seem to forget to use it before going through water..[emoji30]

Flex-a-lite fans are flimsy and can't hold up very well since they are made of thin plastic. I have a metal SPAL fan, but I don't ford rivers either.

With the fan shroud in place, seems like the fan will just as likely fling water directly onto the engine.

Yep, Rausch. There were 3 of us playing in there & none got stuck but we didnt go left like you said. There are no entrances to the pond on the left side thank God. I let the Cherokee go first, LOL

Yes you are. This jeep went second. He was shooting for that rampway. Was trying to show up all the 5th gen Runners. Had to be pulled out by one of them LOL.

LOL Ah, that's not that deep, it's a Jeep! LOL
I have a 1" BL with 33" MT's.
I made it through here too & the Jeep got stuck. LOL
I let the V8 pull him out. LOL

A lot of times it's driver skill, I was in 4-low 1st gear & felt the rig slowing down from drag so I slapped it into 2nd & powered out.
