Hey guys need some advice here. I'm looking @ buying a used 2000-2002 runner sport 4x4 but all ive been able to find are auto tranny. Do they make standard in those years and if not am i making a huge compromise for power by buying a auto?? Thanks for your help!

I think that a manual was offered in 2000 (Gatorgreg is looking at one). However, in '01, i think that Toyota stopped making it.

The auto is very reliable and durable. It's a very good auto tranny IMHO. I have not heard of any problems with it. The auto on my '02 4runner was responsive and shifts fairly quickly and smoothly.

2000 was the last year for 5spd ... i will never give up my 5spd i drive cars for my work and there all autos and i hate it .... in fact my whole family owns a 5spd well 1 of my sisters has a auto but being 17 and always on her cell phone its better

I understand where your coming from, I currently own a old manual 91 ford explorer and it even being old and dying still has pretty good take off so i was just having my doubts.. I am hopelessly in love with 4runners so either way i'm sold on buying one but i'm just trying to figure out if i buy a auto or hold out till i can find a 5spd. What do you guys think? auto or standard for off roading? Thanks for the reply Elton!

if you do alot of city driving i would get a auto but i love my 5spd ... i had a 2 other toyotas one i did alot of offroading and it was fine and my 2nd one i didint get to do much with it as it was totaled in a week of owning it

Personally, i prefer auto for off-roading...i can concentrate on other things besides what my left leg and right arm are doing.

I do drive a lot on the road but it hasn'y bothered me this far. I just wish i could find a couple nice runners out here in Vegas. I've been looking for a couple weeks and i can't find 1 sport 4x4 around. lol they're to hot to stay on the lots. I'm not giving up though. 4x4 with a 5spd isn't a problem is it?

Thats also a great point! I guess i'm going to have to just see what comes along first. i test drove a auto last night and it was nice but wasn't a sport haha and i have to have that hood scoop! You guys are great! thx for the advice!

I guess it must just be because Im used to it but I am also one of those people that CANNOT stand driving a auto. I hat having something shift for me. 1st the gas mileage is worse in a auto and 2nd the power loss is there as well. As for offroading I have never even thought about the downfalls of a manual ie. having to do more. I guess its kinda like having automatic locking hubs and manual locking some of us will sacrifice performance over comfort.

Well thats true, some are use to manual which therefore are confortable with it. Others have always drove auto and are happy with them. Different strokes for different people. I just wish i could locate one of the two. Thanks for your thoughts Canuck215!

i have a manual in mine...and i have only been offroading once in the 4.5 months i have had it...even in the city i like shiftin...somethin to do...of course everyonce in a while...comin back from work @ 3am...i forget...nuthin beats the sound of custom exhaust in a parking garage when u can control what gear you are in for the loudest sound possible...i pass people coverin their ears...of course...thats just my two cents...manual over auto fo sho...

I know you have to love that high RPM pur when your just coasting in 1st gear in a closed in area. Lol this is a hard.
