mizak82 build thread

I must say what sucks buying used. Is when you take apart panels and you discover their shitty wiring. I have found an aftermarket alarm under the dash. I need to pull it. It doesn't work. I had to take out an awful satellite radio install and after this project I need to take out the back up sensor wires and harness install which is also a mess. Cheap stuff. Suspect wiring. I had so much shit in front of me to do. I'll tackle it another day.

And I'm dragging a caliper. Got it on a lift. Spun the passenger front, it was like a roller skate. Driver side front could barely move with my arms. Ordered new caliper. Goes on tomorrow. Hopefully I can get back to respectable gas mileage finally.

Wax and clay bar today. Had to take one of the headlights out and reseal it. It was getting fog when wet.

I ordered the Leds for the interior swap. Looking forward to making the interior white and blue. I'll list what I ordered when I get the project underway.

I also ordered new front pads. Went with akebono performance pads. Have the proact in the back. But figure we got dual piston fronts why not put the better pads up front. Replaced frozen caliper, but should of done the pads at the same time. (Uneven wear).

Busy week.

Replaced the front pads and resprayed the calipers.

Did the led swap. Waiting on some neo4s for the 4wd and info display. then I will post the center console. This was a pretty large but rewarding process. Hvac was the toughest. Going into it I thought it would be the instrument cluster. But that was easy. Wish I did this earlier to my older cars. Lol

At first I didn't mind the amber lights being that the whole interior was that way.. I changed out the dome, privacy, and doors to LEDS, and it was night and day on brightness (my car is tinted, so its dark inside).. I Purchased a Headunit and now nothing matched, So I had to go ALL IN and do the whole interior..

I am blown away by the instrument cluster difference, really made it from a Toyota to a Lexus.. I did a white back lighting... I was able to customize a few Blue LEDS into the cluster as well: hi beam, low beam, fog, trac off, VSC off, VSC/TRAC, and my blinkers are blue.. left all the safety switches red and didn't touch the gears..

the switches are much better now with LEDS, especially the auto function on the door, you can actually see it!

the HVAC, Is a lot of work to do right it seems.. I had to use a dremel to remove the plastic housing to change out the passenger side corner of the HVAC unit.. IF you don't you have a couple lights that are still amber, and to me that is unacceptable at this point... I will say, I love the blue indicator lights I put in.. Big difference.. much brighter.. My one complaint is the back lights have bright spots on the dials.. guess its the best you get.. going to tackle the 12 volt mod tonight for the back lighting.. then I will post a picture.. of the finished hvac unit..

Tough to get the right lighting for a picture of the instrument cluster. but it is night and day.. blown away at how much nicer it looks..

I'd like to secretly think no one is commenting on your thread purely out of respect for you. I'm just sitting here in envy of you while you post away all of these cool mods you've done so far - I can only hope I'll learn how to do most of these mods at one point! Keep up the good work, gorgeous truck

Appreciate the kind words.

Seems you don't get any respect around here until you do your suspension lift and tires.. haha

Not much news on the rig. Well I guess it's not a rig until I get a lift. But I did redo my side view mirrors that were wrecked... This is the issues with buying florida cars.. lot of repainting, sun bakes everything.. luckily I enjoy it..

Easy to get the mirror off only 3 bolts holding it on.. took the plastic cover off the inside by the corner of the window, one bolt there, and took the door cover off to expose the other two.. be careful though the foam gasket and the plastic gasket can separate and rip pretty easy.. Once off, I had to snip the wire end so I could take the base and mirror apart.. I soldered it back together when I finished of course..

Prep.. I Sanded 400/800/1000/1500. Primed it. Sanded again with 1000/1500. Sprayed base coat with see factory color match i down know exactly the amount of coats, but id say 3/4 of the spray can.. I let dry over night.. I then used Duplicolor clear coat did about 4 coats., no runs, no peel.. Will sand with 1500 grit in a few days then polish. And they should really pop. but I'm happy with the result...

More plastidip!

My main issue is my hood scoop keeps oxidizing in the sun. I'm assuming it's because it's plastic. So I figured I'd plastidip it. Grill is also showing

some age. Idk if I'm going to like the look. But will post the finish product.

Nice looking rig and love the mods you have done. I have an SR5 and my mirrors are black and I have thought about painting them silver. Where did you order the matching spray paint to match the silver?

eBay I think. It's SEM factory match. Paint code should be on the inside driver door.

Nice looking truck!
Curious now that it's been a year since you've had your 4Runner floor mats - how do you like them?
I've always gone with WeatherTech and loved them, but decided this past fall to get the 4Runner ones. Not really digging how they hold up.
