New member
Had the wife and kid with me, so I could not do anything crazy, and only spent a little time off road. :(

The truck performed great, I was very happy with the way it handled the stuff I put it through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you didn't get TitanPat's post, I made the rack myself.

It worked wonderfully. We were camping and I put a ton of stuff up there on the ride out and back. It was quiet, didn't move around, very happy with the way it turned out.

It was a fun trip. Wish I had more time to play. It's only 5-6 hrs from Denver so I am hopping to go out again in a month or two. You should make the trip and we can meet up in Moab!!!!! Have our own little 5th Gen Moab Trip!!!!

No plans yet. Been busy. I will definitely let you know when I get them done, I obviously will be making you one too :)

Just a few questions for ya... how old is your kid? Is your truck lifted? What mods?

We want to do a Moab trip but our TE is still stock other than new rubber/wheels. Our son will be a year old next month. We're going to do a long road trip next summer and would like to stop in and do some offroading here. I'm just trying to get a feel if a lift is required and if we should wait until our son is older to avoid whiplash. :)

Any input would be great! Thanks!
 
Hope ya ate @ that mexican restaurant on the north side of town by the rock shop. I'd drive to Moab just to eat there.

There are some trails that you can do stock height and some that you most certainly cannot (though you will be tempted to anyway). There are enough trails for stock height to fill up a weekend at least. But for the funner ones, you will need a lift. My favorite trails have to be the sandy ones that don't require much clearance but are fun to speed down and a little kinder on the neck and back. If you are able to air down to 25 or 20, that will make the ride much smoother for the kid and yourself.

Awesome rack. What a difference custom work makes. This is what a roof rack should look like on the 5th Gen.

Our son is 6. I have a spacer lift up front with new springs in the rear. Tires and sliders are my only mods.

I agree with Egstyle lots of trails to do with no lift. Lift obviously just gives you much needed clearance on some of the more difficult trails. However I have seen trucks with little to no lift go through some pretty gnarly trails with no problems. Lockers, sliders, skids and bumpers are a must! They had plenty of traction, and did not care if they scraped anywhere due to the armor they were running.

I worry about wheeling with small children because if something goes wrong you could be stuck out on a trail all day fixing your truck, not a great spot if your kid gets cranky. Also, 1 might be a little too young in a car seat with all the bouncing. Maybe some others can chime in on wheeling with small children.

Thanks for your input. My biggest concern is my son, obviously. The dog, well, he's an 11-month old stubborn yellow Lab and can handle his own. :D Maybe it would be best to wait until our son is older to hit these trails. :( Why create a cranky kid if you don't need to? Much less put him in harm's way...

As for the gear needed, I'm sure there won't be any new bumpers for the TE out for awhile, although I haven't really looked either. The TE has the lockers and skids (although I'm not sure if they're as good as something like Bud Builts), and I'm debating btwn sliders or nerf bars. Too much research to do, still...

*sigh*
