MOD: got train horns in your t4r? hornblasters install, look inside

Thanks...I mainly posted this up so if there are others that wanted to or even was considering horns. Now they have a idea on how it can work in their t4r.

Because I don't want to lose my spare. Why do I have to lose something to gain something else? Taking out the spare would have been real easy to do. I would have used a 8 gallon tank then and two pumps and 8 horns. That's not the goal of this install, this one was to showcase what can be done within the engine compartment.

It's great that you have a preference with a larger tank. I would love to see how you would do the same horns with a larger tank and keep everything under the hood. I have a 1.5gallon, 2 gallon and 2.5 gallon tank in stock. None of those would fit, Then ordered in this 1 gallon.

Train horns should be heard and not seen.

too many switches for me, but i have thought about the tank where you put it, so i guess ill have to do it! Looks good, i need to pick up more airline so i can route them where you did. Nice install.

Okay, so you would rather stare at blanks? Than have a switch to turn off the rigid industries d2 led lights, or one for train horn override, or one for compressor override? Unfortunately they are necessary for what I want them to do. When you get to install your horns, you will find it necessary.

I do want to find oem on off switches though. I think they would look nicer

Installing a "train horn" is a general term used loosely. You talking about genuine nathanial air chine p3 or p5's or these hornblaster shocker xl or some dual trumpet horns with a compressor ect?

Train horns is useful, its something you have to have but dont need! LoL

Yes, it can do air for inflating your tires.
this small 1 gallon only have 4 ports
1: safty pressure release valve
2: compressor out/tank in
3: drain cock
4: air tank out/horn in

so i T'd off one port on top to do safety pressure release and pressure switch.

in the future i would probably T off the tank out side for tank out and airline out, only thing that sucks about that is coiled air hose needs to be pretty big to get to the furthest tire.

Nice setup, I had one similar back when I was a teenager in my Saturn, used to scare the hell out of people.

People with the 4.0 V6 could definitely fit a bigger air tank under the hood since we have a lot more room to work with

Since i got stuck in the Pine barrens last week while i wheeling with the kids and no recovery stuff. I did my next mod to my train horn mod.

I added in a air fill hose, nozzle nipple what ever you want to call it

parts required for my setup
two 1/2" mip 1/2" hose quick connects
one 1/2" mip "tee"
one 3/8" reducer
one3/8" adapter
one air fill nozzle

basically the parts listed in this picture $15 worth from home depot or lowes

now its usefull, i can airdown then back up

I have this same setup in my 335i, They are great. My system is also completely hidden.

I do have a few differences. I used a 2.5 gallon tank and a 400C compressor. The tank size is adequate but the compressor is weak. I plan on upgrading to an Air zenith compressor. You should look into these beasts.

With the larger tank i had an extra port and plumbed a air fitting as well as a coil hose to fill tires and what not. It could run an impact but not for long.

My 325c is a fast fill small compressor that I chose to fit under the hood of my truck. I also choose a 1 gallon tank so that it can fit under the hood of my truck.

I have dual 480c pumps in my volvo v70r, 5 gallon tank, spare tire, two amps,extra large 2150 stinger battery, 10" sub woofer and third row seat. Yes, that's all hidden too. Air zenith is nice but if I was going to spend money on ultra high end pumps, oasis pump is the way I would go. Those puppies can fill a tire straight from the compressor. Cost about 4 times more than any viair pump!

Oasis pumps are massive though. Atleast the AZ is only a little more than a 480c and not much larger.

Another thing you might consider is adding a second tank, you can hook the tanks together and mount the other tank in the rear of the truck for also running tools and whatnot

lol, isnt the tank only rated to 150 working pressure/arent air tools about CFM not tank size? correct me if im wrong, i dont own air tools

You are right, CFM is somewhat important. Most tanks are 200+psi capable. But the components have to all be equal to or greater than the pressure switch rating.

the trick is running 200psi supply and a 150psi output. that 50psi goes along way

I never said it would work for long, but that tank may last 3 seconds, adding the 50PSI might get you an extra second or 2, thats %25-30 more air. With my 2.5 gallon tank i can take off one wheel(5 lug car wheel)

As he stated his setup is made to be compact, There are much better compressor and tank options if ON board air was your first priority.

Yes, I can go bigger tank, go bigger pump, go more tanks, go more pumps. The list goes on and on.

In a mildly lifted 4 runner, I realized that if I would have tried to put my tanks under the truck. I would have killed them when I was high centered in a sandy water crossing last week.

I am keeping my stuff where they are right now.

Some valid suggestions though. It sounds like you have a bunch of experience with on board air like I do. I have done about 3 dozen systems on various cars/trucks.

Damn, you caught me, lol. No i dont own a 4th gen. I do work on a lot of them though, And i think what you did is pretty good considering its all under the hood. I was just throwing ideas out to make the system more robust.
