My Oakley Gascans wouldn't fit in the glasses compartment located by the sunroof switch.. so I decided to make use of the waste of space.
Alas.. a flush mounted Samsung Galaxy S I Home dock.. shaved and modded of course.
I basically pulled out the whole console from the headliner and removed the compartment separately. You'll notice if you open yours that there is a large bump in the center on the inside (for supporting your glasses). This bump actually houses the spring mechanism that allows the release button to return to its latched position when the compartment is closed. I had to completely cut this out as it didn't leave enough space to center the phone where it could be usable. I ended up fashioning my own spring return that took up much less space (sorry no pictures). I also cut the entire front of the compartment off (mostly the two ugly sides) so that I could have a smooth flush surface. I used a flat black foam sheet, cut it to shape, and then made a frame behind it so that it would be solid.
In the end it came out perfectly, looks OEM. There are a lot of steps that I made that I haven't mentioned (running wires etc). If anyone is interested, I'll write up a tutorial.
