Modifications needed on new 4runner

hi i am new to this thread. looking to buy a blizzard limited in next few months.

Always wanted a 4runner, but disappointed in some minor things that will need fixing/modding. some already addressed here, but here is what I would like to do.
1. Replace current fog lights with hella micro xenons.
2. Replace ALL bulbs, turn signals, brake lights, interior lights with LEDs
3. Put wider tires on 20 inch rims. Ridiculous why toyota chose 245/60 on 20 inch rims! Thinking about Yokohama parada spec-x in 275/55/r20 size. Is this doable on the current 20 inch rims? (this has been brought up here in numerous places on thread)
4. Need integrated mudflaps with running board. May have to settle for separate running board and flaps.
5. New HORN and smaller antenna (already addressed here)..
6. Adding 2 extra cylinders to engine (just kidding).
7. Door molding to protect against others who may bump your T4R
8. Moving window switchs lower on driver door (dont know how could accomplish this yet)

very dissapointed in toyota decisions on these minor things which will be a hassle to fix. why they regressed backwards away from prior integrated antenna, led tails, projector headlights is anyones guess. (cost, future years updates).

Actually, the fog lights on the new 4runner are the first fog lights I have ever seen on a vehicle anywhere that are worth a darn. They are far superior to any OEM ones I've seen and are much better than several top of the line PIAAs I've owned.

I agree totally.The fogs in the 5th Gens use H11 bulbs,same as the headlights, instead of the older 9006 bulbs. Excellent fog lights!!They can be adjusted up/down or left/right with little knurled knobs on the backside of them.I had to adjust mine back down after I lifted the front of my truck.

I had a 6000k Phillips H11 HID kit for the low beams and 4300K Mccullough 9006 HID fog light kit on my 4th Gen and these 5th Gen light outputs are pretty darn close.The HIDS did light up road signs better though.

I've never had HID OEM lights and I've always lusted after them. I hate that more autocos don't have them as an option.

I actually looked at Mercedes before I bought my Trail and I asked how many people bought Mercedes without the HID Xenon OEM option and the salespeople said "most of them".

It was a $1500 option for the OEM Bi-Xenon auto leveling HIDS on my old BMW M3. But man they were sweet!
For those that are really interested in HID's for your 10 4Runner they can be custom made at a cost. This guy Cesar, up in Jersey is the man and did alot of people's BMW retrofits. You have to send him your OEM headlamps and he will retrofit projectors in them. The company is called Lightwerkz , just google it.

Good to know about the adjustment knobs. Do the headlights have these as well?

Harper7, what kind of vehicle did you come from? I had an 07 G35 S Sedan w/ a 6 Speed. I was also using the 6k Phillips Ultinon D2S bulbs. While they were great, I must agree that the 4runners' light output (with fogs) is very similar to that of my G. I'm MUCH higher up now, with a better view of the road and my surroundings, though, so maybe it's a combination of the both. Regardless, once you've driven a car with projectors (especially ones that turn with the steering wheel) it's hard to go back. Hopefully when Toyota adds them they will be plug in play with the 2010 bodystyle, and you can be sure I'll be adding them to my ride.

Toyota will not be "adding" HID to any of their current vehicles if they are not already an option.

Also, all low-beam and high-beam headlights are adjustable in all vehicles always. It's required by federal law on autos manufactured since 325 BC.

i wouldnt add projectors to main headlight housing and then HID. it is illegal and your car wont pass state inspection. this is why i wanted to add the hella microxenons in place of fogs. they are actually much brighter because its more concentrated light. the lights can be covered up easily or removed then for inspection

I've been thinking about a projector retrofit on my 5th gen for awhile now so I downloaded a trial of photoshop tonight to give it a shot at what it might look like, I know its not perfect by any means but you can still get the picture and thought some people might like to give it a peek.

Glad you downloaded that trial and did some tutorials because that definitely helped you out on a good job you did for this photoshop

This is what I plan on doing Harper, I tackled this project myself on a TransAm Firehawk and it was costly and time consuming. Granted, retrofitting a TransAm with pop-up headlights was probably one of the worst cars to attempt, but the results were awesome.

Cesar and Lightwerkz is highly recommended on many of the HID forums and puts out a great product.

FWIW, I did this in Texas and had my car inspected with the HIDs, it passed just fine. The attendant never mentioned anything about my headlights.

I agree. Shortly before I traded my Titan, I upgraded it to projectors and also upgraded the fog lights.

Out of the box, the 4runner's lights are the brightest and have the best coverage of any vehicle I've owned. Modifying them would be way down the list of needed changes.

As I get more acquainted with mine, I'm looking at:

- better tires (but I really like the SR5 wheels...keeping those)
- a useful roof rack (Yakima, or Baja...unless someone knows of something cooler)
- rear receiver step
- all weather mats
- front window tinting to match rear windows
- sliders with step rails...I have running boards...but they hang too low for my taste. Not a big deal. My four wheeling is mainly boat pulling related

Maybe a few other mods as well. But, overall I think the 4runner is very well executed. Over time, I think there will be a lot of great ideas (as has already been demonstrated) for making our 4runners better equipped for the way we work and play.

I do have one cool accessory though...a receiver mounted gas grill. Awesome for tailgating!

nice to see an old thread brought up, but in the end, the gX was a better fit for me and glad i bot it. No regrets. EVen the horn sounds like a real honk on the gx. In any case, i was stupid and bot the TE headlights, now stuck with them. If anyone wants them for a bargain pm me. i also have TSX projectors too that would go easily inside the headlights.

Black door handles for 2015 SR5

Hey guys, new to the site and just got a Silver 2015 SR5. Getting the basic (cheaper) aesthetic mods done first. Basically I want to Blackout a lot of the silver. The one thing that I've seen on some is the black door handles. I am not sure where I can find these and was wondering if any of you could give any feedback. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
