Mods to stock grille?

So just curiosity kicking up here.... Anybody ever trimmed the black parts on the outside of the grille to make it wider? If ya know what i mean its hard to explain. Just curious how it would look or maybe even help my intake breath better.

1st and 2nd gens are "classics" here because they share MANY of the same features.

Ive only cut my grill to fit around a winch.

Yes, I trimmed them out of the top 2 slots on the right side and made it so it could push more directly into the engine bay to help with my underhood and passenger floorboard temps from my Thorley headers, never did it to the left side, too many chances to suck in huge bugs, more dirt, and worst of all, water. LMK if you need a pic, took all of 4min's w/ a dremel and watching out for the support bracing.

I left the pictures that size so you could actually see. I cut all that louver stuff out of the grille and added a chicken wire type grating to the back and then put the poser trd emblem in there lol.

Thanks man! I think he was starting to run when I took the picture, he my friends little brother ( weird one). That day was a proud day of pulling a jeep out and a Chevy. :boink:

4running90 that looks awesome! I think what i am gonna do is replace the stock grill with a new one. And take the old beat up one and toy around with it and see what i like the best. thanks for all the replies!

I like it,when I show this to my 2 sons they will want me to do this to their trucks.Or I just might do it without them knowing and see how long it takes them to notice lol.

Haha, its pretty noticeable. It took me about 2 hours. I used a hacksaw blade, and a sawzall with a metal blade to cut the stuff out. That stuff I used as the grille I bought at Lowes for like $5 bucks and it comes with more than enough for 2 trucks. I painted that stuff black and bought the trd emblem on eBay for $10.

Easy and IMO it looks good.

Simple and quick job on the spare grille I had I wasn't going for pretty.
I have the original grille that I cut the upper 2 slots out on in the garage to do a satoshi job on one of these days.
If you look at the bottom slot left half you see the support I mentioned.
