Monroe shocks

Has anyone tried Monroe shocks and struts on their 4 runner?

They are fairly reasonable in price, but there are a few different models.

Sensi-trac is a gas charged shock that supposedly is progressive in nature.

Monroe Magnum is another gas shock that sounds pretty heavy duty.

Anyone have any recommendations ?

(.... I haven't checked prices on Toyota shocks yet, but I bet they are probably expensive).

Here is the monroe link......

I believe that only the SENSA-TRAC is available for the 4runner....at least, last time i checked.

I hear that they provide a slightly firmer ride than OEM...but still much smoother than the other aftermarket alternatives.

Maybe Monroes are worth trying out...... I don't mind a slightly firmer ride.

I just sold my 87 SR5 standard cab 4x4, and now THAT was a bone jarring ride, so the 4runner is like riding on air by comparison.

There is a place called Rockauto.com that has pretty reasonable prices on Monroes. I will check with Toyota first just to compare.

Thanks. :)

I ended up calling Toyota...... they were as cheap as anyplace else for the original factory shocks.

$29 for the rears and $24 for the fronts.......not bad.

Hi. I put the Monroe Sensi-Tracs on my Runner and they rode very well; but they lasted only a couple of years. I've since replaced them with Rancho 5000 shocks and they seem to ride as good or better than the Monroe shocks. Fairly easy job to do yourself, suggest buying about 2-4 large fender washers to put on top of the shocks when installing to help reinforce the supplied washers.
