It's that season and I now know a 5th gen 4runner won't win in a head to head battle. My 3 week old black SR5 is totalled and the moose is dead. My wife made it through without a scratch. be carefull and count your blessings.

Bummer man:cry2:...glad the Mrs. is ok though.....a new truck can be had pretty easily, and money, well, you can make more of that too!

Glad she is ok!!! Mind if I ask what speed she hit it at, or if you have pics of the 4R after the crash? Besides the crash test videos I have not really seen how it handles real life crashes (which is a good thing). Here's wishing you better luck with your next 4R (assuming you go that way again).

my TE had its first moose encounter in september; parked at the time, luckily.
 
I think "without a scratch" is the key phrase here. It's tough to take when it's a new vehicle, but I feel better knowing how much damage a 4Runner can take and allow the passengers to walk away.

I'm sorry about your truck, but I'm glad your wife was unharmed. Let insurance handle the rest.
 
Glad your wife is okay. 4Runners can be replaced but not a life. Start parting out that 5th gen and sell 'em over here.
 
its a good thing your wife is good. totalled my tacoma last year on my birthday, got rearended by a dodge ram on the freeway. both my husband and i walked away.


too bad you couldnt take the moose home and eat him...it would have been a more fitting end.

Glad your wife is OK. I wondered what a 3rd would take when I was doing a lot of prime-moose highway driving last month.
 
Extremely happy to hear that your wife is OK!!! That is the most important thing to take from of all of this. I witnessed the results of a collision between a flying deer and an automobile doing 55+ MPH in NJ a few years ago. I and another tried rendering assistance to the driver, but there wasn't anything that could've been done to save him.

Deer and NJ. I used to drive through backroads in HUnterdon county at night to get to somerset for band practice. One area I went through had tons of deer, so I always made it a point to drive ~20 mph, but I still ended up hitting two on two separate instances. Even at low speed they cause a ton of damage. In both cases the fenders, front bumper, passenger side lights, and hood needed replacement along with some other parts.

OP: Sorry about your ride but glad the wife is ok!
