More Solid Axle Talk...

Hello all!.

i cant stop debating with myself the next step for my 4runner. long travel, solid axle, sell it, keep it. so im just gonna try and ask a simple but complicated question so i can hopefully get the most direct answer possible and really have the proper idea of what my options are. i know this is probably in someone elses post but im asking again so i can get a more directed answer...hopefully.

i got my 96 4runner. Im really thinking at a solid axle swapping it. i want to put a fj80 solid axle up front and know its possible and quite easy to do with an adapter and gear driven case.

so my question is, besides the fj80 axle, adapter, and gear driven case, what else am i needed to do the swap? if i were to take the 80 axle out of a donor, are there certain components i should make sure to grab? if the donor had lockers in the front could i use that in the runner? im just trying to avoid missing things after getting to the point of no return.
im mechanically inclined and have the resources to do the work and what ever i cant do i have the help to do it i just want to get some opinionated answers here from the true owners and see maybe if anyones been in my shoes and what you did/didnt do and how it worked out for you?

thanks all and if im missing factors here let me know.

First thing you should look into is the steering, if you go with an IFS first gen box, which a lot of people do. All pro or Front range makes a frame reinforcement for that set up I think.

Second thing is what are you going to do for springs/shocks, no limit on what you can spend if you go to Kings. Even Fox are expensive.

Also get some quotes on Driveshafts, From JE REEL in Pomona. I'm guessing 7 or 8 hundred right there.

And then are you going to keep the drive flanges or install manual hubs on that axle? That would require large center hole wheels.

What about gearing? And will you need to do something in the rear to match ride height.

OK, now go do it and post pictures!

Just do it and don't look back, no regrets. Just take time gather parts, you can find deals and it gives you time to research which way you want to go with the build, budget or full top tier parts

I am going to say fjz80 elocker axles would put you in a pretty strong start

I got a total chaos long travel from a dude who was going ton sas off Craigslist, got the entire front set up for a price I couldn't pass up and was able to part back the parts I didnt use to make it cheaper. So that pretty much sealed my sas thought

Just got ordered fox shocks from lvtotalautomotive on the gb. For 20% off no tax and shipped was good for this time of year. Especially for shocks not in a kit.

All in all I'll have a long travel for a budget

I'm in the process of gathering parts for an 80s front axle, there's a lot to consider. There is a member on here who has done the 80s swap under his 4runner and he has been super helpful.
Sadly no locker in my axle, but it has the same gears as my rear so that's something
