Morphyne's Painkiller build tread

ok so a year and a half later, the spring never did fully seat. it turned and got hung up on the perch. I hammered it around and now my rearend is almost completely level.

nothing majorly new on my ride except for the fact that my paint job did not last. just redid the satoshi grill and now and going to redo the bumper by completely stripping it and using adhesion promoter this time...

Future mods involve a gobi rack and a light bar. maybe a winch if i can justify it.

Update. So after two years, my paint did not last. I think I need to completely strip off the chrome instead of just sand and prep it. Also, same thing with my bumper. the paint yellowed, cracked and flaked off. I think I am going to just replace the bumper with a new replacement from ebay for $239 plus free shipping. So we will see.

But! I also need/want all new ball joints (upper and lower), end links, etc... all of those thing are expressing grease and the even though the ride is still manageable, its a little squirrely on windy days.

Lastly, I bought my wife an 05 GX470 a few months ago and have been taking care of it. I am seriously thinking about replacing the shocks and front springs with an icon stage 1 and saving the springs for when the air bags go out. we love the air bag ride....

But one interesting thing of note. If I remember correctly, my tires are about 2 years old and I drive between 25 and 30k a year. so that trakcs ture that I think I have 45k miles on them and they are now just at half tread. what an amazing deal. Now I will say that most of those miles are highway.

flushed my coolant today and added new. used my special bottle to check the color of the fluid.

Also ran a tap through the skid plate bolts and was surprised how much crap was on the threads.

So this happened today.

Bumper cover is shot. But that is actually a blessing in disguise bc as it turns out this thing has been repainted and my paint job was flaking off bad. even off of the chrome on the grill

Structural bumper is dented but not bent so i dont think it needs immediate attention.

Got super lucky here. Almost punctured my trans fluid cooler.

I think I can save the satoshi, but I might get an unfinished grill have have it professionally painted. This is for a limited but it should fit.

If I go that route I might get this. Gonna contact a paint shop in the morning.

Although I may see if this guy can do me a grill too.

Of course it looks like most or all of this will be necessary.

All in all I am out about $500. what a PITA.

Am I missing anything?

So I got back from a work trip and came home to a garage full of goodies!

Time to get started.

Ugly.

Bad pic but if you look close, its a mangled mess in there. Luckily the AC condenser was dented but not punctured.

This is the point I really wish I was putting an ARB bumper on my ride.

Remember what I said about the AC condenser surviving the crash? Well I took care of that. The bolt on the left is what I took out of the ac condenser mount, the screw on the right is what I grabbed to try to re-install. Needless to say, I let the Genie out of the bottle so I had to buy a new AC condenser on rock auto. So far only about $70 worth of mistakes were made. Cost me $2.50 in the swear jar.

So I bought a pre-painted bumper cover off of ebay from MBI Auto. And all I can say is that they pack there stuff well!

After a lot of pounding and bending, I got everything to line up pretty good. Still some tweeks I am sure.

How is your bumper holding up? I just hit a deer Monday and my cover is totally wrecked, along with other damage. MBI seems to have the best deal.

I appologize. I don't know how I missed this. Bumper is fine. took MBI a couple of tries to get the color right though. overall I would buy from them again. but I assume that since it has been a solid month, that you already fixed your ride.

I can say that if i had the money, I would have just gotten a steel aftermarket bumper instead.

Major changes/upgrades coming. in the following weeks I will be adding bilstein 6112/5140 combo, front bilstein springs, rear icon 2" springs, new brakes, and bumping the tire size up from 265/70/17 to 275/70/17.

Still waiting on upgrades. Just too damn hot this summer to put this kind of work in.

Anyway, one stupid thing is that I was wrong about my spring being in. I Checkex it because I was having a rough lateral ride. Turns out I have a leaking shock. Anyway the spring shifted a litthe and looked like it could pop out. So I took a 3 foot pry bar and it finally popped in. I will update in a couple of Weekes to see if it stays.

Catching up on a neglected huld thread.

Changed the tranny fluid.

Dirty pan.

New tranny filter next to old.

Clean pan.

Fluid comparo.

My wife's 05 GX470 doesn't have it'sown thread so I turned these.

Into these.

I noticed the other day my muffler was looking pretty shabby. Then today I was cleaning out underneath my workbench and found an almost empty can of black grill paint. So I thought what the heck. Let's give this a try.
