General problem is that my 4runner sometimes does not start. Here are the details:
Only happens in fall and spring, do not have this problem in summer or winter.
Only happens occasionally, i never know when, or how often
Happens on full tank of gas, or nearly empty tank
Replaced starter, battery, and alternator.
The car "clicks" when i turn the key over. The gas pump turns on, the lights turn on, the starter does not spin.
If i release the key and try again it will *sometimes* start.
If i roll it down a hill she will clutch start perfectly.
If the engine does not start, i hill start, then turn the truck off immediately, it will start with no problem
Occasionally the battery is completely dead.
If the truck is not starting and i simply hold the key in the start position, withen 10-15 seconds the truck will start.
if i kick the truck, it will start.
if i walk in the house and come back outside 5 minutes later, it will start.
These are all true statements, and i have tried forever to diagnose what is causing the problem. I keep assuming a short somewhere as vibrations will usually cause it to start, but it only happens when its about 20-40 degrees day in and day out. Which.. shorts arnt temp dependant as far as i know. The charging system is fine, the grounding system is fine. The wires appear fine to me. Does anyone have a clue what this is?
