Motive Power Bleeder- OK to Use 5th Gen for Brake flush ?

i tried the vacuum method from our bleeders too but it seems like something is preventing the fluid from coming out.. weird.. i dont know.. eventually just gave up on that and pumped at the pedals and let the electronic pump do the rest..

The vacuum tank is not needed for the rear brakes on a 5th gen. You do need to turn the key on and push the brake pedal part way one time to make the pump run. The vacuum tank works for the front.

Could you please post a link to the article by nashman69 you referenced having to do with bleeding the brakes?

Also, I see on one of the older posts that bleeding the brakes triggers a check engine light (?). If so, can I clear with my OBD2 scanner?

2010 FSM from the nashman69g thread follows follows:

https://www.mediafire.com/?91cliu5r6nb38

I too was concerned about the CHECK light being triggered. I had a PM conversation with the person who wrote the tacomaworld.com thread I posted above. He claims no CHECK light has ever been set. One other person from that forum who also uses this method has also indicated no issues with a CHECK light.
The DTC warning appears in the 2010 4R FSM that you'll download and extract.
That same warning does not appear in the 2005-2015 Tacoma doc for this same braking system. Not sure why there's a DTC warning in one and not the other when the brake system being discussed is the same.
I do not know if a generic scanner would clear the DTCs, if any would be set.

UPDATE I - found a PDF version of the brake bleed/flush from the 2010 FSM. See post #11 in the following thread:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/201649-motive-products-brake-bleeder-5th-gen.html

UPDATE II - regarding the DTCs that "might" be set during a bleed of the electric master cyl - this YT video shows a technique the author claims will not only reset emission check light, but also, ABS and SRS. I know this can work for emission check light, but not sure it clears an ABS/SRS computer. I would prefer not to have to buy a special ABS scanner just to reset a brake bleed code. I checked with Equus and Innova. None of their "$100" scanners will reset ABS/SRS codes on later model vehicles.:

Motive bleeder

Ive been bleeding brakes with a Motive Bleeder for 8 yrs. However I do it quite a bit differently. I changed out the clear line for a hi-quality fuel hose. I have never put any fluid in the tank.I see too many things that could go wrong and screw up one of my rides. I suck out and replace the master cylinder fluid with new stuff. I then attach the cap and hose, pump up the pressure and start just opening the bleeders one at a time with a clear hose attached and then into a clear water bottle. The pressure will push the fluid out fine. When it looks clear I tighten the bleeder and check the master level. I do the rest and fill the master to the correct level. Works perfect and very little chance to screw up.

This.

This is good . I have used the bleeder on my 01 4Runner with a mod or two to make it fit the reservoir without pouring fluid all over. I don't have the time to write it up but it is written in detail on the 3rd gen site from around 2005/06. You use a plumbing adapter to make the seal and never fill the bleeder. It is used to provide PSI to push fluid out. As long as you refil the reservoir 2 or 3 times it worked fine. Hopefully it will work fine on my 2016 when I need to do it

Yup, only way I've ever used the Motive power bleeder, never have put fluid into it!
Exactly. And the power bleeder stays clean and dry plus no mess. Only downside is that you can run the MC dry so you have to keep an eye on it and disconnect/refill as necessary.

I've used Motive Power Bleeders on several vehicles since about 2000. I never had any issues filling the bleeder and using as intended . This on a Toyota Sequoia, two Volvos, and a Corvette ZO6. Even using the Universal adapter, no leaks. However, I always wrap with a towel in case. Always had great success with the Motive Bleeder, but YMMV.

The master cylinder on my 2015 4Runner does not look like the universal adapter will work. So I am thinking about getting a Power Probe BA10 Small Adapter for Toyota ( as listed on Amazon).
