Motorized Antenna woes!

Hey folks,

So I've been cruising without a proper radio antenna hooked up for the past few years, as my JVC deck, didn't have dual antenna, and the motorized one's plug didn't fit.

The other day, I modded the antenna wire, and plugged it back in. However, now when I turn the key to the on position, the motor engages, makes a bunch of racket for several seconds, and then stops.

I think the antenna has come off the track, or has broken, as I have pulled it up, and can put it down, by hand. Now, that being said, I was wondering if I could simply cut the power to the antenna somehow, yet keep it plugged in for reception???

Anyone have any insight on this?

Behind your stereo there should be a wiring harness that goes between your stereo and the actual trucks wiring harness. These have pretty much universal coloring codes and I believe the color you are looking for is solid blue. Snip snip...

Easier than that. I did this before I did the Taco Whip Mod. Open your fender well where the antenna is. Look at the motor and follow the wire to a plug at the top of your inner fender. Unplug the plug and your good to go!

Thanks folks for the replies. I'm actually not interested in swapping antenna's as I'm happy with just using this one, minus the motorized part.

Lee, I don't remember you saying that.... lol! But will definitely do that, if it solves my issues with the motor engaging all the time. HA HA!

I guess unplugging that wire would work. But, if you're already going in there to unplug it, why not just replace the antenna mast? Is there a specific reason you don't want to replace the actual antenna? It's a $20 part on eBay and can be swapped with the broken one in about 15-30 minutes.

Wait! you have the same setup as me? If you have the GPS antenna on your back windshield then you can tap that easily with a little adapter and get full reception back without the front antenna. Read THREAD thread starting on page 2. Keep an eye on Peter's comments. It barely cost me anything and took no time at all to install.

I just don't feel it's necessary to replace it, if all I have to do is unplug a wire..... Just find it to be a waste of money, when I can use that money to do something else to the truck!

Thanks for letting me know about the Ebay sales.... thought I had to go to the dealer for that...which I was told would be closer to $40.00 to buy. I found a few for under $20.00 shipped!

I'm going to rock my old one for a while, if it breaks, I'll definitely hit up E-bay for a new one!
