MotorWest Injector Already Dead. (False Alarm)

I replaced my injectors with a brand new Motorwest set about a month ago, and thing were going great - throttle response was up, fuel efficiency was bumped, no more hesitation - until today when I developed a SEVERE cyl 4 misfire on my way to an interview completely out of the blue. I actually thought I lost a gear sheared a spider or something cause the truck was shaking so bad (flashing CEL and code scanner say otherwise though). When I got home I took off the plenum, checked the injector with a multimeter and it was dead as a doornail.
Just my luck as I threw out the old injectors literally 2 days ago because things were going smoothly. And of course it's the side blocked by the plenum.
Anybody else having troubles with theirs, or had to get theirs warrantied shortly after installing them? To say this is infuriating and inconvenient is putting it lightly.

Edit: yes I checked coil packs and plug wires. Replaced #4 plug wire and cleaned it's terminal on the #1 coil pack with no difference.
Double edit to save people time: It wasn't the injector and instead a coilpack

Sorry to hear that happened. This post just makes me lean even harder towards having a local shop clean mine. They still look brand new on the outside... but my MPG is definitely not where it should be.

Tons and I mean TONS of guys have used Motorwest Injectors without issue. Is Motorwest immune from components failing prematurely, when they normally don't? Yes, of course. You just had a little bad luck. What I do know is Martin Diaz, the owner of the company stands behind the products he sells. He will send you out a replacement. I know him and he's a solid dude. He wouldn't knowingly sell an inferior product.

The original injectors have an electrical flaw to them and that's why Motorwest stopped refurbishing the Aisin OEM injectors. Just a little information for you. The OP just experienced bad luck, and that's all it is. This is by no means a reflection of the quality of the injectors Motorwest sells.

good to know. I'm still confident in my OEM injectors for now. but if they end up dying, i'll go with Motorwest. I haven't seen any positive feedback about any other brand, that's for sure.

Also, if anybody's wondering, this all happened about a 1/2 mile from my local Toyota dealer, so I stopped in to see how much they'd sell a fuel injector for...
$360, plus change. For a single injector. Not all six, just one. More than what MotorWest charges for a whole set
I was expecting a firm $150 at the very least which is already high, but not $200 more than that

Called MotorWest and asked about their warranty (lifetime on these injectors) and they dug up my order + emailed me before I was even able to get to a computer. Pretty impressive service
Still picked up a spare in case I need to go anywhere. Driving it the 20 miles back home was nerve racking to say the least. Thankfully no knocking or anything... yet. What's funny is the spare I picked up is clearly what MotorWest uses to rebuild - has many of the same markings and this color is the same shade of green as what was under the black paint. MotorWest still has them beat on price though; $99 just for one

I have also purchased a set of the Motorwest injectors for my truck. That really sucks that one turned out bad for you this early. I was fixing a coolant leak on the intake manifold on the front passenger side water jacket & doing my knock sensors and figured I would also do my injectors while I had everything off. Thankfully I found the video [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION] and Sean made. I bought a set of the MW injectors because of Timmy's recommendation for motor west and also because of the price. 329 bucks for a set of 6 is great compared to OEM cost. It's been about 6.5 months since I installed them (June 2023) and they have been flawless so far. Like Tim said even though they put out a good product out they aren't immune to failures. Seems like they took care of you though, good to hear they were right on top of the customer service!

The original 23250-62040 (brown) injectors have an internal solenoid defect that fails over time, with high mileage engines being the most affected by this.

They are using a Denso unit.
I had a set in mine that gave me no issues for the additional 1 year that I owned the truck. I have since sold, cannot give a longer term assessment. In my case, one injector tested bad and no amount of cleaning was going to remedy that.

I guess you didn't read Post #7 where the OP talks about the lifetime warranty and the fact they took care of him.

Well interesting update. I assumed the injector was bad cause it was right around 13.5 ohms and I remember seeing 14-18 is the operating range. Before throwing in my new injector today I doubled checked it with a multimeter... and it's also at 13.5. I checked the rest on the vehicle, all 13.5.
So that's not a good sign. :ranger: And a little weird cause last summer or the year before I checked my brown injectors just for giggles and had like 16 or 17 ohms each

EDIT: Found the issue, it's spark related. I tried swapping it around yesterday but was in a hurry and must've gotten them mixed up an put them back where they started. Today I replaced the injector anyways since the engine was torn down, made sure I swapped around the coil packs/plug wires and spark plugs between cylinders 4 and 2 (also 1 + 5 respectively), and the misfire followed to cylinder 2 now. Both spark plugs looked okay and checked out fine with a multimeter and a new plug wire didn't solve it, so it's gotta be the coil pack.
What's strange is that also means it's not sending voltage through the plug wire but still providing spark to it's own cylinder. Very odd.

The coil packs can partially fail like you're experiencing.

Pg IG-5 FSM. I've used an oven to heat coils can make a difference in testing.
Secondary coil resistance:
Cold 9.3 - 16.0 Ω
Hot 11.7 - 18.8 Ω
Primary coil resistance:
Cold 0.67 - 1.05 Ω
Hot 0.85 - 1.23 Ω
”Cold” is from -10°C (14°F) to 50°C (122°F) and ”Hot” is from 50°C (122°F) to 100°C(212°F).

It good to hear it wasn't the Injector in a way.

The boot on the coil is known to burn through. Also.

Over the years I had one coil go bad and two boots on the coil burn through

My last 4Runner had a coil pack fail that only caused a single cylinder to misfire. The coil pack has separate windings for each cylinder it sends spark to so one side can fail and the other be fine.

Replaced the coil pack and it's smooth as a top now. I guess that's that :ranger:
