Mounting Side/Reverse LEDs with stock rack?

Hey everyone. So as I use my 4Runner more and more for camping and stuff like that, I have determined that a small 2x2 flood LED Pod or maybe a small 5-10" flood LED bar would be incredibly useful and simply nice to have when doing some late night camping and/or cooking. Right now I have an 03 Limited with the stock roof rails on it. As of now, I am not looking at a new roof rack, although they certainly are awesome. I think I'm going to save up to eventually put a gobi or baja rack on there, but at this point, it isn't really an option.

So does anyone have any ideas on how to mount a light to the sides, and rear if possible, of the stock roof rails? Has anyone done it? I would love to see pics if you got 'em! Thanks!

id imagine for rear facing you could copy this just on the backside, maybe flip the l brackets so the lights are further rearward? id be concerned about hitting the hatch/spoiler though

Yea the rear spoiler is really what is killing me here. I was toying with the idea of just a gobi ladder on the back to mount a light or two on. Maybe one on top and one on the bottom for when it is opened and closed. Still a little more expensive than I would like though...

i think the real question is how high do you really want them, if you want them up further then youre probably gonna have to get creative with mounting
 
Do like I did and mount the lights inside the the truck in the rear where the coat hanger mounts. I'll get a pic of 2 in the morning for you if you're interested
 
Actually, I found a pic where you can see the lights. I'll get better/closer ones tomorrow.

Now that's interesting. Are they adjustable? As in can you aim them a little up or down if you wanted? How hard was the install? That is low profile (which I love, and would be extremely useful with the hatch open or closed!

You mean angle the lights? If so, yes. They use the mounts they come with, so they pivot on those mounts.

Perfect. Sorry about all the questions, but this should be the last one(s). Any sort of 2x2 or 3x3 pod with a "bolt-in" base should work right? Is it as simple as screwing them in to the hole already there for the coat hanger? Do you have to go behind the headliner or anything at all?

Yea, just bolt in and write them up and your good to go!

Fantastic. I might look in to doing this. Seems like it would be low profile, and relatively easy to do. Only thing I guess I have to figure out is wiring and getting power all the way from the battery to the lights!

So what did you do about wiring? Clearly you took it in to the side paneling right there, but then where did you go with it? Did you keep the relay close to the lights, or keep it closer to the battery and run thicker wiring just for power for the lights?

Yep...I tucked it in that panel, then ran the wiring up to switch. I used 14ga wire. I don't know if I needed that big, but I had some handy. I have a blue sea fuse block under the hood, so all the relays are under the bracket for the fuse block. The switch is in one of the blanks behind the shifter.
