Moving 4th Gen brake pedal

I have a hell of a time getting my size 12 shoe to squeeze between the brake pedal and the center console to get to the gas pedal. I would like to move the brake pedal over at least 1". Any one else have this problem and how did you fix it?

Me too with size 11's, depending on the shoes I'm wearing. Didn't think to post this under things I dislike about the 4Runner. Maybe trim it with a rotary tool like the post about shortening the gas pedal.

I too have size 12 'hoofs'. But, so far I haven't had a problem with the pedal arrangement myself. From the way the brake pedal is set up, what I would suggest is to order a second brake sub assembly (the part your foot pushes) and have it bent to the left to give you more clearance with the gas pedal. This way you can experiment with bending it till you get what works for you without possibly damaging the original one.

I thought about doing that. It looks like the pedal is part of the brake lever. I thought that it would be a seperate piece that I could slide to one side or another.

It's funny, I didn't have this problem with my last 4Runner. It was a 1990, with a manual trans so it had more pedals under there. Maybe I just got used to driving my Tundra with gobs of room? I just can't believe that more people find it annoying. Maybe the person who owned it before me had tiny feet and they bent it so it would be closer.

I have this problem, too, when wearing a certain pair of hiking-style shoes. I usually notice it when I'm riding along with the cruise on and quickly move my foot back in front of the gas pedal; sometimes I'll catch the brake pedal in the process.

I agree that the brake pedal is just a little too close to the gas.

I haven't actually looked at mine, but from the drawings, it looks like the metal pedal is welded to the lever assy. An alternative to bending the lever could be cutting the pedal pad off the lever and re-welding in further to the left. That may require a brace be attached to the left side of the lever to keep the pedal from twisting on the new location.
