I am no engine tuning expert… but won’t that just lean out the motor unless you increase fuel for the added air its moving?
Id figure if getting 3 MPG out of the thing was that easy… the OEM’s would have did it for you already assuming isn’t not causing some negative effect as a trade-off.
Leaning it out, assuming it was too rich (which is typical), will save gas.
Adding a less restrictive exhaust could help with taking in more air, since more air can exit - means more power produced. Negative effects would be dBs and potential low-end effects due to due lowered backpressure.
