MPG-o-meter calibration?

This is probably a little out there, but does anyone happen to know if it is possible to calibrate the average fuel mileage gauge display thingy? Mine consistently reads exactly 2mpg more than what I actually get calculating it via topping it off and dividing by mileage.

Mine is off by quite a bit. I saw on here someone was using an app called Gas cubby. I have since switched to doing the mileage on that instead. As people have commented in other threads.. It's better to do the math on paper as the display can't be trusted.

As far as I know there is no way to calibrate it. Nor am I even sure how it works.

I made a post a long while ago trying to analyze the logic in why it always seems to be skewed from what is hand calculated... but it was a pointless attempt.

Cram some 33" tires under the truck. That should get you pretty close.

Don't blame you for asking but I hope you realize how cool it is that it's consistent.

Consistent means it's precise, and the fact that the error lands on the whole number of 2 means you're a nearly instantaneous mental calculation away from accuracy.

You get to have your cake and eat it too. Passengers will be impressed by the mpg and you'll know the truth before even filling up.

And don't get down on it too much when the consistency lets you down. Such variations are at least as likely to be due to the gas pump shut off valve as to the mpg monitoring system.

At this point, I don't think I have the heart to tell you that if you established the error for the truck odometer, that 2 might very well look more like 1.5.

Not a priority, but it's a cool toy.............

I always zero out the trip odometer, and completely fill up the tank. After each fill up, I hand calculate my MPGs. It's always about ~ 2 mpgs more than the hand calculation. If you search, you will see that this is the consensus.

I'm still debating on whether or not to purchase a Kiwi Mpg gadget:

Costs ABOUT $60, but I'm holding off b/c I don't know where to install it CLEANLY (integrated into the dash/console/overhead console/where ever).

Thanks for the support! It is nice that its fairly consistent, but I don't like false hope
And the consistency probably comes from the fact that I fill up at half tank, using the same gas station, using the same gas pump usually... My weekly schedule isn't very interesting lol.

I used a speedohealer after I lifted and my odometer, speedometer as well as my mpg is right. It used to be 2 mpg wishful but I find its very close after doing to speedohealer. One of the easier, best mods I've done.
