MPG rapid decrease...

So ive been sticking with the same exact setup and typically got 16-17mpg and all of a sudden ive noticed lately that it has dropped to 14-15 mpg. Not sure why since nothing has really changed on the 4runner that would decrease the gas more and ive been driving about the same way.

So im trying to see wat prob could be done to help increase mpgs within reason.
- Obviously drive slower
- Replace O2 Sensor
- ?

Seems to be common problem among a few of us recently. I started a thread on this a while back and still never found a solution- no changes to the rig since I've seen the drop and have clean oil, filter, MAF, Throttle body, etc... Some have told me it's due to the cold, winter weather and changes in gas or something... Still not able to figure out a conclusion.

ya i thought aobut it being the weather but it nvr occurred to me that they may have increased the %age of ethanol. Well i guess ill have to try to figure something out since i just poured gas and my tank showed i had an avg of 14.5 mpg.

I would perform a little basic maintenance and slightly change your driving habits. Try setting a rev limit you wouldn't exceed. It has been getting cold here lately so thats one of the reasons. How long are your trips or do you idle alot? The ethanol is the gas is a good reason too but we are supposed to have no more than 10%

From my understanding they bump the ethenol due to the cold air being denser and heavier and increases the effects smog, I could be wrong though either way it sucks, I want my summer blend back , lol

What they due to gas is nothing compared to what they do to diesel.

Danny, floor it alot this tank, mainly on the highway and try to burn everything out of the Cats. Clean the MAF and Throttle body. And look into Hypermilling technics, many of the technics are a bit "out there" but i have used some of the safe ones and they do help conserve fuel.

I wouldn't call 1-2 MPG "rapid" thats kind of minor.
