So after a few hunting trips and piling gear up in the back, I decided i wanted to build a shelf to give me two levels of storage. Here are the pics of what I did. I thought it turned out great. I used it last weekend and it was nice to put a climbing stand and clothes under and guns and bags on top.

First i took some scrap p/w from work and cut it to fit. Then I had some pieces leftover that I had ripped off a 2x6 building a table. I cut those in length to fit the resting place in the fender wells.

I then laid the shelf on the boards and drew lines so I could take it out and glue/screw the crossmembers to the shelf. It turned out that the heighth was almost perfect with the top of the fender well. I also took some 1x6 decking boards that were laying around and cut the supports in the rear on an angle to reduce the loss of space under the shelf.

I ended up putting 3 supports in the rear for extra strength. I used the Kreg jig and glue to attach the supports. This made it nice and strong and it help me, which is about 170lbs. I then went to Lowes and bought some gray carpet and glue to finish it out. The carpet was not a perfect match, but in this bad quality iPhone pic, it looks perfect. It worked great. I also like to have the room between the door and shelf for larger items like a cooler. I will upload a pic of the shelf in action this weekend when I pack for hunting. Enjoy. Thanks
