So what happened to the diff breather extension? Good Lord i hate mud.

The diff breather extension was fine until I washed the truck :/ The water from the carwash pooled in the area by the drain hole I ran it through and it basically funneled water into the rear diff. I have since corrected it by moving the breather to upper left of the gas cap.

Unfortunately I almost destroyed my threads in my rear diff when I went to change the fluid. I have dyslexia and didn't confirm which way i was turning and ended up tightening the plug almost a full turn Luckily it stripped the plug and the threads are more or less intact in the diff, I just got a new plug and I should be good to go. I need to just keep an eye on it and if I have any issues I will have to bump up to a 20 mm - 1.5 plug after I retap it.

Mud blows... Had I known more about the park before I committed to going I would have been a rider in a Heep... The truck did alright, but I have spent probably $30 at the car wash and I still am finding pockets of mud in just stupid places Not to mention the whole alternator thing, never again...

I have a little lean from the weight that I have on my drivers side so I picked up a rear 10mm OME trim packer to level it out. I also ordered a Marlin Crawler low pro rear diff drain plug to replace the one that I stripped out like an Idiot :roadkill:

Just picked up a set of TRED Recovery Ramps from eBay for $82 bucks. I am going to bet it was a mistake and it will get canceled, but I hope not!

Ouch! That doesn't sound good... at least you were able to rig something up to work! That aux battery is sounding better and more useful every time I read about it.. I may just have to get one myself.

Out of curiosity, how did you manage to stretch the parking brake cable? Just snag it on something, and kept driving? Or how did you end up getting loose from it?

The battery is a Godsend.


As far as the cable I am not sure :: I am just going to adjust it to take up the slack and call it good though.

So yesterday I pulled my front seats to swap the buns. The drivers side was starting to wear through so It was time. It turned out great, definitely recommend if your seats are getting ragged. I don't know if you could do it with the limited seats though.

I am thinking about selling them actually. I probablly would outsoruce the printing though to a company that can do SLS printing.

I was hoping to avoid the mud but that became apparent that would not happen as soon as I hit the first trail.

That is one of the reasons I wouldn't take my 3rd gen there. I have heard its generally very muddy and the trails are narrow. Sorry to hear you had issues. It could have been worse.... you could have smashed in a door or got some major exterior damage from a tree.

Yeah it wasnt too narrow so that was good, cleanup was a ***** though...

We basically have the same lights and wheels.

Looking at an FJ? You've barely owned the 4runner 6 months.

I think you will find the FJ to be less useful as a camping / wheeling vehicle. Mainly because it is so much smaller on the inside and therfore you can carry much less stuff.

Yeah its coming along.

I had my last 4runner for a year and a half, just under the radar here, the current one only a month and a half though.

If I get this FJ the 4Runner will stay in the family at least my dad may take it as a runabout down at the condo in fl and I would transfer my non model spicfic mods over to the fJ.

It is smaller, but I see it as a non issue since my plan is to get a trailer to act as a base camp. I love the RTT, and I would like it more on a small trailer i think.

Overall though the FJ seems so much more refined and comfortable. IDK I still love the 4Runner, but could let it go if it will be staying in the family.

Cruiser I am looking for something newer, I wish it was a 40. I just don't have the time or money for a real project though.
