I went with the Magnaflow 18' and am I sorry. Granted I'm old so my ears might be messed up, but I hate the sound, It's not just loud, loud I could deal with but it make's my runner sound like a hopped up civic

What should I do next?

Hate it, hate it!

I think I'll rip it off, and install something else, ideas?

Magnaflow 24"? etc

Help?

Probably get flamed for this, but oh well. Man, I have only heard one non-V8 toyota that actually sounded good in my life, and I have no idea what that guy was running. I think they all sound a little "civicy" with aftermarket exhaust. Put the stock muffler back on! Just one mans opinion, though.

I ran 3 different combination's (of 1 MF, 2 MF, 1MF and an AeroTurbine) and on the 4th try I ended up with a "stock replacement". All of the others were too loud. Not bad when accelerating but a horrible drone on long hulls up mountains. The stock replacement has a nice low hum under acceleration but quiet all other times.

you have probably already heard/seen my video but im like you with not liking the ricey sound. Im running a spintech and to me its perfect (most of the time) when im tired and cranky then the drone at 40mph gets a little annoying but then of couse everything is annoying

but yeah i have a video in my build thread in my sig below. it has the sounds inside and out. You cant even here it unless your on the throttle or going around 40 mph or something around that. i think my intake over powers the exhaust sound

but yeah stock is probably the best as far as no sound.

I say try the 24" Magnaflow.

x2 I 've heard that the 24" one works well for a lot of people. I'm running the TRD system that has a relatively large muffler as well as a resonator, which you can see in this pic; this day was a great one:

It cost about $610 shipped to my local dealership with a 15% DIY coupon that I used. Paid a local Midas $45 to mount it, which included the sawzall'ing of some mad rusty parts. No one would build me a custom system within a hundred miles of me, so I went the expensive route which I still get crap for ("It's just a Borla system!! With a 100% price increase!!) Some people don't have the choice. Here's how it sounds in the cabin with the windows down if you're interested:

Hey what Spintech muffler is that you bought? It does sound nice from what I can tell in your video. I'd would want that same sound personally.

I purchased the Borla cat-back for mine a few weeks ago and love it. There is a slight drone when on the Hwy. Other than that it sounds just as sweet as my buddy's TRD on his 5.7L Tundra. We tested them side by side and they both sound nice and very similar.

I don't see how they can sound similar. That 5.7L V8 is a beast. The sound from a V6 is much different than a V8. That's the biggest problem in making ours sound good.

wish I could hear it in person, does sound good

round trip

The latino muffler store had a hard time understanding why I wanted them to pull my old muffler out of the dumpster and reinstall it.
I don't feel to bad about my $200 mistake, first I've made since working on the rig, thanks to all the help from forum folk, not bad at all

pm offers on on one day old magnflow 18" SS

haha thats too funny man. i could totally picture them wondering why. hope you find what your looking for as far as sound.

I'm worried you didn't let your 18" break-in long enough. They do sound pretty poopy at first. After 300 miles, they sound alot better.

Like Clemson said....the 3.4L V6 inherently sounds a little like a hopped up Civic with any muffler....it's just the V6 sound. But it does sound worse when the muffler is brand new.

Mine sounds good now. I'll do a recording and post it up.

I love my runner, I just couldn't allow it to sound like a hopped up civic for another mile much less 300 miles......no dis, just not for me

I've been thinking about getting the 14" MF, but because of our V6's, it sounds like what ever direction anyone should decide to go, they should consider the inline Tundra resonator as a necessary add-on.

I don't know if that would make any difference on yours 4F, but it might be an option.

PS: You're about to get a PM :D

I have a "modded" stock muffler, that the Northeast rust has "enhanced" the sound.

First you have to live in a salty area, 2nd you have to rip the outer shell of the muffler off like so:

then the muffler will look like this:

And here is what it sounds like, sorry its upside down (maybe photobucket is hosted in Australia)
