Muffler replacement

The pipe cracked on my 2005 4runner sport 6 cyl just after the muffler. It looks like i can get a walker for $170 puede so, but i could go oem from an oemautopartsandaccessories.com for $372 plus shipping. The car has 240,000 miles on it but is running great. The Walker's are reported to rust out after a few years, so it seems worth it. Any thoughts or alternative suggestions?

For me, oem is galvanized steel and has lasted this long so that's my answer.

Bossman, i went with the walker. It was less than half and my car probably doesn't have 10 more years. Im confused about the walker bolts, which have came with springs, a sleeve for the springs, and no nuts. I bought the nuts at the hardware store, but it looks like the sleeves will prevent the nut from tightening the ends of the muffler pipe together. How does it work?

My purchase of a Walker muffler/exhaust was based on a similar mindset - how much longer was I going to have my 03 Limited. Having the muffler come with a limited, lifetime warranty also was a selling point.

I had my Walker muffler installed by a trusted independent mechanic, so I'm not much help in diy installation.

I had a Walker on mine and it lasted 6 weeks before it started rattling and the chamber plates separated. Absolute garbage IMHO. There is a reason they are so cheap.

So, as these projects tend to go, it took me longer than i would have liked, about 4 hours to take out the old muffler and install the new one. The front gasket sealed up perfect but the rear one leaks a little. I might take a look at a new oem gasket to see if it's more substantial than the Walker. The biggest time drain was cutting off the rear bolts, which i started with a dremel and finished by grinding the surface with an angle grinder. It helped to take the tail pipe completely off to grind off the broken bolts. The fit of the walker was fine and the muffler sounds just like my original, as far af i can tell. If it lasts 6 weeks I'll take it in for warranty. With new bolts, it won't be that hard to do.

The end of the tail/resonator pipe was caroded with some of the edged worn off, but i slathered enough heat twisting silicon on it to seal the leak. The walker tail pipe is only $60 and easy to get to if the silicon fails. This muffler sounds great and has a lifetime guarantee. I'm very glad i went this route.
