Muffler

I have a 1998 Limited 4x4 4runner. It has the 3.4L engine. I want to replace the muffler to get a better sound. Does anybody know what size I need to buy? I was looking at the Cherry Bomb Vortex. Does anybody have this one? Do you like it?

Where do you buy the adaptor? I wasn't sure of what size my exhaust pipes are.

Measure the tip of your muffler, should be 2"1/2 and the muffler.

If you are planning on welding the exhaust (which i would) you don't really need the adapter. If you are clamping it definitely get the adapter. You should be able to get the adapter at any shop where they sell exhausts. And do you know if your truck has a stock exhaust if so the exhaust should be 2.25"od but i would get a set of calipers and make sure in case a previous owner switched it.

That's a good idea. I'm pretty sure it would be welded. I'm pretty sure it's stock too, but I'll go measure before I buy.

FWIW, I put a Dynomax turbo muffler on ours & really like the sound - throatier than stock, but doesn't have the drone that others have complained about w/ the Vortex at cruising speeds.

Had a muffler shop weld it up for <$100. Better option than clamps, unless you plan on going back to stock or otherwise.

That's a good idea. I was hoping to get a muffler for like under $60. Then get it welded for about $40.
