multi-mode 4WD

For those of you with the multi-mode 4wd, how long does it take for the 4 green tire lights go solid when you push the "4WD" (AWD) button??

Mine seems to work only when it wants to, I tried speeding up and slowing down but nothing seems to help....4Hi works fine but just the AWD part doesnt work all the time.

Do you guys have any ideas of what could be a problem?? or am i doing something wrong??

I'm not sure what you mean, if you don't push the button you are in 2 wheel drive, 4 hi w/o the center diff locked and AWD are basically the same thing, though I prefer calling it full time 4wd instead of AWD. So are you saying when you push the button to switch from 2wd to 4wd it takes a while?

when pushing the button on my rig it takes about 15-20 sec for the green lights to go from flashing to solid.

I have 02, and it goes to high 4-wheel drive in under 20 seconds. One thing you should do is put in the high 4wd every month for at least 20 miles. I usually do it when it rains. If you use it regularly you will find it will go into 4wd easier.

i noticed this weekend that it will only engage if i let off the gas for a second, which makes since

Have you tried driving in reverse? A few times I have had the lights flash for a minute or two without going into 4wd, but when I shifted to reverse and backed up a few feet it went into 4wd within seconds.

mine engages a few seconds after i hit the button. i can tell exactly when it hapens...i can feel a slight thump under the car and the green light comes on at the same time. if i'm accelerating when i hit the button, the 4wd doesn't engage until i tap the brake.

The owners manue says to steer straight and accelerate or decelerate, but usually need it when I get stuck so my procedure is as follows

1. Get stuck
2. push in 4WD button
3. shift to park
4. shift to drive
5. 4WD engages
6. If needed push locking center diff
7. shift to park
8. shift to drive
9. center diff engages



Alot of people will tell you that you need to engage the 4WD before you need it because you need to be moving. This is no the casse. Hope this helps you out.
