Multiple electrical problems- 05 V8 SE- any clue whats wrong?

Ok, well I noticed today out on my lunch that my clock read 1:00. I thought that I maybe hit the buttons by accident so I reset it. I go back into work and then leave for the day later on. I notice that the clock is back to 1:00. I also noticed that my clusters are frozen as they were when I turned the car off. The gas gauge was frozen at half tank, RPM was a little below 1. So I turn the car off and restart it. All the needles tick down the the bottom, like a second hand, of each cluster and then go back up to where they blong accordingly. Everything seems to work ie. speedometer, RPM, gas gauge. Then I get home and realize that my Homelink isn't working either. Is there something that connects them all together? Fuse maybe? But if its a fuse, would they continue to work even if the key is turned on? I have had so many problems with this I am totally shocked. If I wanted these types of problems I would have bought a Pontiac!

After reading your post, I had to laugh. I used to own a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am. And yes, every time it went in for an oil change, it was a shop visit as well. In fact, it had a computer problem kinda similiar to what you are saying.

Try checking your battery. There might be a chance your battery is about to go. Another idea could be the alternator dying. (These two items caused some of the problems in my GA).

The only other thing I can think of is that the computer itself has an issue, like my old car. What might have caused mine was due to a water leak that flooded the passengerside floor where the computer was located. I do not know where the computer is on the 4Runner, but that would be my guess is that you have a water leak near the computer that is causing your issues. The bad part is the only way to get it fixed is to go to the dealer.

Its funny you mention a water leak as we had a HUGE rainstorm last night. I didn't even think about that and everything worked fine until this morning. Will the problem go away if/when it dries out? That could definately be the problem then...Yeah, my 2000 Grand AM GT was in the shop literally every month. I went through 7 sets of brakes, 4 sunroofs, flooding in the back seat due to faulty moulding, replaced engine cylinder, and the list goes on and on...

I know this is an old thread but...

My '96 Bonne had surging engine - actually it would ramp up to around 3K rpm when stopped at a red light - temp gauge would peg out. Took the dealer 5 days and cost me $700 for them to find a corroded ground connection coming out of the engine management computer.
Loved that v6 with the supercharger and my Pontiac parts counter guy. He started giving me the wholesale price since I bought so many repair / replacement parts from them.

Then I bought a new Acura CL, nice sedan. Traded it for the 4runner after the CL's 4th stranded on the side of the road and transmission replacement.

Would not take anything for my 4Runner. It's the best of the two dozen new cars I've bought and I'm keeping it.
