My 05 just hit 253K!

I'm just curious to see who around here has squeezed what kind of mileage out of their 4Runner. I've got an 05 with 253K. All I've ever done was regualar maintenance, fluid changes and wear and tear items. It's eaten one sensor but that's absolutely it.

My truck has NOT been babied. I drive like an ahole, was in the land business for years (I can't tell you how many skidder trails it's driven up and down mountains), have driven it in the surf, and done parking lot donuts in every snowstorm since 05. On top of that, I've had it wide open more times than I can count.

As of today, it runs like the day it was new and doens't look much worse.

First off... I see this is your first post. Welcome to the forum!

Hell yeah! Glad I'm not the only one who "drives it like he stole it". Not all the time but I definitely don't baby mine either. I've got 60k less than you at 190k on my 2003 V8. Still hardly a rattle (except the sunroof rattle that I'm going to take care of soon), but other than that, drives great! I just try to make sure all my scheduled maintenance is kept up and away I go.

Do you have the V6 or V8?

I ran my 2nd gen to 205,000 miles then sold it to a friend who finally got rid of it with over 325,000 miles.

I sold my 3rd gen with 152,000 miles in showroom condition when I bought my 4th gen. I've also had 2 Camry's; both went over 215,000 before I sold them; and a Celica that I sold with 181,000 miles; also in showroom condition.

Very little maintenance beyond normal PM's on all of them. Oh, what a feeling!

Lol. Love this post. 208k on my 99 V6 and 105k on my 04 V8. Both have been ridiculously awesome. My 04 is salvage due to a seemingly pretty heavy crash, but still runs like an absolute champ.

Im glad to read the mileage you guys are getting from these trucks. My first 3rd gen had about 180k(original front brake pads as well) before I gave it to my nephew for school, my second 3rd gen had 239k before I sold it for my 4th gen. Excited to see where this one takes me.

I have 120k on my 04 v8, but I bought it it in May '12 with 104k.

I have close to 230k miles on my 05. Besides the front rotors...the truck has been very reliable. No unwanted repairs. I just hope it's as reliable as my past Pathfinders. My 98 reached over 420k miles when we finally got rid of it...Last I knew it was approaching 500k miles and still going strong.

I have close to 230k miles on my 05.

Up here in salt country it seems to be the rust that destroys the rig long before the miles do; had to get rid of a '95 Previa last year because it was disintegrating but the 4 cyl supercharged engine still started right up and ran like champ with over 300k mi on the original engine/drivetrain.

Rust hasn't been much of an issue with vehicles for about 20 years now. Most manufacturers know how to protect against rust. My 98 pathfinder has SOME rust but it was still going strong last time I saw my daughter driver with over 400k miles.

147k mostly trouble-free miles on my '03 SR5. 50k plus of those are mine in the last 5 years. Hoping it will last another 10 years and no indication that it won't.

I did have the drivers side front caliper freeze up a couple years ago. Overheated and warped the rotor. Fixed all that and had the same thing happen less than a year later plus this time the passenger front was also bad. So, dropped some coin fixing that and did the rear brakes also flushing the entire system. Now, everything in there has a lifetime warranty, so I'm at least not buying many new parts.

Other than a 30k mile year a few years back, I'm barely driving it 4-5k miles a year. I think the problems may have to do with sitting in the garage too much, so I'm at least getting it out for a drive once a week if only to the store and back.

I think you just enjoy being contrary Mike. Compare any two vehicles of same model, year manufacture etc: one that has lived in say Arizona or California and the other that has lived in say... New Hampshire.

Most casual observers upon looking at the underside will have little difficulty figuring out which vehicle lived in which state and the difference only becomes more obvious with passing years.

Are car manufactures doing a better job at protecting against corrosion ? Sure, but it is still a major problem. Hence the new frame underneath my much less than 20 year old Tacoma ...

I didn't say there WOULDN'T be rust. What I'm saying is that cars don't become rust buckets like they did prior to the mid 80's. My Pathfinder was over 15 years old and had over 420k miles when we finally sold it. It had some rust..but it was still drivable. My wifes 96 Accord we gave to my niece who went to school in Rochester NY had very little rust when she graduated 2 years ago.

My wifes 1980 Datsun 510 was rusting away after 5 years. The car manufacturers have made great strides in preventing rust. Rust is NOT an issue even after 20 years. While there may be some rust...the bodies and frames are still solid.

That was/is due to improper rust-proofing done at the factory more so than living its life in a salt state. With the correct protection, all those Tacomas which went to the crusher :nono: would still be on the road today.

That was a design/manufacturing flaw..And this occurred even on Toyota's that were in Florida. And it was for only a 2-3 year period. If you think your vehicle is prone to excessive rust that it'll rust out before the engine gives out...then buy a GM.

75k miles 06 sr5 v8 4x4...no major repairs except the $4k air injection problem. honestly though the car feels like it can easily do another 100k easy with just regular maintenance.

With the correct protection, all those Tacomas which went to the crusher would still be on the road today.

Did they go to the crusher?? Thought there was a frame replacement program. My local Toyota dealer had several stacks of the Tacoma frames for months. Said they were averaging one a week. Very expensive and time consuming for Toyota.
