my 1987 toyota 4runner will not start

My 1987 Toyota 4runner does not start good. It has a push button to start it and i have to turn the key on and off two or more time because it does not:help: want to start good. can anyone help me figure out what could be causing this problem? :help: :help:

My old VW Beetle has a push button to start......whenever it has acted up, it was just a loose/bad connection. Chech the wire connections. See if anything changes if you wiggle the connections......."wiggle it, just a little bit."

haha good one. I will try it but i figured out that the guy that owned my 4runner before me was a cobbler he messed with the whole wiring harness

Pull off the dash so you can see whats goin on and check for a bad connection. Theres probably something loose or broken, just redo those with butt connectors or whatever it needs. If you find old connectors yank on em and if they come loose redo them.

More than likely it's a fuel pump or regulator. From what I'm understanding is it cranks just takes a while to start correct? If that's the case check both the regulator and then if that's good the fuel pump is letting fuel feed back into the tank out of the lines

Please clarify:
Starter does not crank (turn)?
Starter cranks but you do not get combustion? (The VROOM when there is fuel injected into cylinders and there is spark to ignite it).

I would take a video but I don't know how to upload it anyway what I have to do is turn the key to the on position try to start it then turn it off and on 2 or more time for it to start but I will take the fuel pump off and get a new one

Huh? Does it turn over or not? If it's not turning over then it's not the fuel pump but if it's turning over just not starting then it's probably fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump. More tests need to be done before you go out and spend 1xx on a fuel pump

It turns over fine but it just won't start good. Another thing is that once it finally starts it runs fine so I am thinking that when I turn the key on it doesn't turn the fuel pump on right away like a bad connection or something like that
