FYI, my incoming PA safety inspection required I install my missing brake shields. You might not find someone quite so picky. Clearly [MENTION=164664]brillo_76[/MENTION] has a nicer guy inspecting his.

Wow, really. Those are rotor dust shields. I never had any inspection station around here question mine missing.

Now holes in the frame and rockers are missing, yes. Holes in body panels, yes. Some places are more particular than others. I also live in a county that doesn't have the emmisions check either.

I lost my guy that would just show me what I missed in my pre inspection.

I go to my friends garage now and I can get away with some stuff. But his mechanic puts every comment into the system for next time.

He is why I couldn’t put off the axle seal leak any longer. I basically get a list and have a year to fix it.

You mentioning this I’ll look into getting one and trying to get it installed.

He is the type of inspection guy that will see a rust bubble and grab a screwdriver and try and poke a hole in it.

Bummer.. I know lots of inspectors do it differently and they are safety inspections. I understand a lot of it. Plus you want the Rigs to be safe going down the roads.

We also have one around here that will find an issue with a brand new car on its first inspection too.. Could have 5K miles on it and he find something.
Granted was the same place that cut a battery guard because they had the wrong battery and wouldn't pass the car the next year because of that too.. :/

In NJ, I had emissions but no safety. Here I have safety but no emissions. I'd go back to that NJ set up in a second. I have yet to get a PA sticker on the 4Runner. Fortunately, up here no one cares. I haven't seen a cop in months.

I would have thought that by now your county would have had a high enough population to require emissions checks. Interesting….

I am in Armstrong.... I figured I joined in.. lol.. So western, south central, and north eastern sections represented. The state safety inspections are changing, though. I have noticed this in the last decade.

For example, if you fix rockers, etc, they have to be back to factory spec. Meaning basically back to what the oem mfg used.

This one is actually a good one. As lots of folks loved their spray foam and bondo. Not only does this rot the metal faster. It hold moisture.
So you rust out at a faster rate.

Unibody cars can bend if their rockers out rusted out. So it's good to see less aluminum tape repairs around as the inspectors start enforcing some of these.

Be thankful Durk. You could live in Northern Virginia and have both emissions and the state safety inspection. Money money money

It been proven it has been done successfully.

With those cuts for the key way, I would think the whole structure would be weakened being only 3 bolts holding the splash shield on.

Haha, then again, the 4runner is on the edge of disaster with only four 10mm bolts holding the lbj to the spindle.

That's no biggie. Folks can always check for play in LBJs

I still believe larger tires and rims, along with suspension lifts with 4 wheeling, make those issues worse. Just my theory.

So, lately my starter has been making those noises as the engine starts.

I have a new spare Napa (Denso clone) that was a warrenty from what I put in my EX’s 97 limited that failed and I rebuilt the original Denso and returned to napa for a warrenty replacement.

It’s a pain in the arse replacing starters and I have this new spare on the shelf that I verified that the contacts were installed correctly. My failing starter has new contacts within the last 40k miles (ish) but I never regreased the business end of the starter.

I have a spare OEM Denso starter but during removal I broke the start wire connector.

Anyone out there in the collective have a line on the black replacement connector and the rubber breather tube?

I’m feeling like if I can’t source the parts I’m going to put the Napa starter in and break down my starter and re-grease the gears and replace the brushes. And if, when the made in Malaysia starter fails I’ll pull the Napa new and put the regreased OEM starter in.

I’m sure the Napa new is a clone that OEM Denso or Toyota repair parts will fit.

Had I have known the those black plastic connectors and starter vent tube would be sought after, I would have stored some of them.
Ha, my first taste of a 3rd gen starter r&r's was helping a friend out. A third way into it I was "what kind of messed up puzzle is this"!
Im glad I wasn't the only one trying to figure out that puzzle.

We used to have several shops. Now it's only one place, and they don't rebuild them properly half the time around here.
