My 2001 4runner

I 've been lurking here for a long time and have learned alot from everyone here. Thanks for all the entertaining and informative threads.

Here is my 2001 4runner 4x4. I traded my 1998 2wd for it in January and I love it. All of the things I didn't like about the 98 were fixed on this one(drink holders, etc). Bought with only 2 things not working, the antenna and the rear window, but I can live with that.

Needs new tires. I will probably get Toyo Open Countrys in about a month.

I like the badges, and only 25 bucks for a head unit. Very nice 4Runner
 
Which open country and what did you have before? I wanted to know how the ride was when switching to the toyos. I will probably get those for my next set. I went with the michelin cross terrain for my commute but was surprised at how good they are in snow

My Cross Terrains got me places I didn't think I could get, and although this pic proves almost nothing, this is how much tread I had left after about 65,000 miles of very hard driving, and still had a decent amount of tread left, and were still nice and sticky.
 
I got the 265/65R16 on my 4runner. They are pretty good tires! They are aggressive enough to get me out of snow but smooth enough to drive on smooth roads. On the highway they are not that noisy at all. Overall good tires, I am verry happy with them
 
Oh sorry. When i bought the truck, It came with the same tire rating except they were firestones. They looked like lady tires to me and were worn out a bit so when i had the money, i went with the toyos.
 
Yeah I liked the Toyo open country a/t but didn't see anything on the highway ride. The mich cross terrain had reviews from every SUV owner out there so I went with them. I heard all the toyos stay sticky to the bitter end though.

It still has the Bridgestone Dueler D689 tires that came on it. Not bad tires, but I want something a bit more aggressive. I haven't had Open Country's before, but they get good reviews. I did have Revos on my old 4runner and they were pretty nice.

The black pearl emblems came on the truck, which was nice.

The running boards will probably stay until I find some black nerf bars or sliders for a good price. My wife and 4 yr old ride in it so they are used quite a bit.

I just got myself a 4Runner just like yours, only mine is a 2002. I didn't know about the Scion head unit upgrade, I'm gonna look into that for mine I'd love the ipod input. This is actually my second T4R, I used to have another 2002 SR5 and sold it, regretted it like you have no idea, specially since I sold it to a friend of mine and saw it all the time. finally went out and bought myself another one, with 30k miles less than the first one! Anyway, nice runner!!
 
It's made by Pioneer and plays mp3's and wma's. Some are I-pod and SAT radio ready. It pushes 160 watts, which is much better than the factory Toyota HU. It has a Scion Sound Proccessor sound enhancement for mp3's and equalization presets for the different Scion models. I use the Xa setting. For the cost and plug and play install, it was a no-brainer upgrade for me.

I ended up ordering one last night... found one on ebay from a 2007 scion for $75 shipped. I little more than you paid for yours but i think it was a good deal nonetheless...

that is a lot of modern features in a deck that costs so little

Why would the Scion owners be 'dumping' these- any guess?

my guess is they are upgrading the whole sound system... amps, subs, navi HUs, etc. also, i've seen a lot of the TCs being driven as if they were Porche's so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them are being parted out because of accidents
 
I think alot of people upgrade over OEM but some people OEM is just fine but it is funny that Toyota didn't offer better in the 4Runner which costs almost double of most Scions.
 
Isn't the premium audio system on Limited gen. 3's something like 200 watts? Or was it 100? It doesn't seem to be anything special at all, especially since mine is going on 6 years old, and as soon as money makes itself present in my wallet, I will be upgrading the speakers. Because compared to the 470 in my Acura, the 4Runner's got nothin'.
