Hi Peoples!
I have had my 2002 4Runner since 2007. I've loved everything about it but, have run into an issue as of earlier this week. It's been snowing and icing up a little bit where I live; nothing major. But, I decided to try out the 4wheel drive as I've only done that once before. This time though, I got it into 4 wheel drive and drove maybe 6 miles with the 4wd engaged. The 4wd lights never stopped flashing, which means it never fully engaged right? I got to a parking lot and started fooling around with it's gears and stuff. The llot was lightly snowed/iced with a lot of lightly damp and some dry spots. Well....I kept pressing the 4wd button to disengage the setting. It wouldn't disengage no matter what I seemed to do. I shifted the gears to every possibly conceived setting (neutral, hi low...etc.) and could not get it to disengage. Well.....I got it into neutral (the 4wheel drive) and it made a horrid grinding noise. A few minutes after that, the 4wd got disengaged somehow. I have no idea how I did that. But, the thing is now the 4wd lights are stuck on and flashing though I'm not in 4wd mode. Anyone got any ideas on what I did to the thing and how to remedy the problem? I'm hoping it doesn't cost much of anything to fix it cause the local dealer is wanting 300 bucks JUST to run a diagnostic! That seems a little like rape to me. Am I being reasonable in having that view? Thanks for any ideas or help yall can give me!
