My 2007 4Runner is rusting...anyone else?

what about industrial pollution of some sort? Is it possible it's foreign material on TOP of the or imbedded in the paint?
Not that uncommon around factories. I once got a new paint job on an old truck when a parking lot got hit with a bunch of metal particles that lodged in the paint. (from an incinerator)

2007 4Runner rusting
I also have a 2007 4Runner that is rusting on the tailgate. I live in Illinois. I purchased the 4Runner in 7/31/07. The rust is coming from under the chrome that goes across the handle on the tailgate. Lower left had corner of that chrome plate. The dealership had it repaired for the first time 02/11/08, when I went to pick it up it still had rust on it so I sent it back.
Yesterday I found that the same spot is rusting again. When I went to the dealership today, the service person told me to go to the body repair shop that the dealership sent it to for repair myself and complain to them, not to her. She said that she has done everything she could. I told her that this is not my problem but theirs and they should take care of it not me. The service person got the Service Manager and he agreed that I should not have to take it anywhere, that they would call the body shop to whom they sent it to to be repaired and speak to them.
On a side note......they told me when I got the 4Runner back that the factory must of attached the chrome plate to tight and cracked the paint underneath. I don't know what it continues to come back if it has been repaired but it has.....
I just heard back from the manager and he is having me drop the car off on 04/15/08 to be repaired AGAIN. I did ask the manager what would happen if this continued to rust and he said that he couldn't say for sure, that this is the first time they have ever had anything like this happen but that Toyota has always stood behind their product. So we will see...............

However, I have a one of those bull step horn attached into the receiver hitch, so I am guessing the rusting could be because of that on the hitch. I will speak to Toyota at my next appointment why this is happening and how can they fix it. I will also contact Toyota Customer service and find out how do they address these kind of issues.

You mis quoted , I'm not the one having rust problems . I also think for the one with the problem it probably bad painting job , especially if its under the door .
Ron , Again that thing looks damn nice underneath. Better than my 06 .
I understand what you are saying about the heated garage though. trying to control it best i can. So far I'm ok . As far as engine comp. goes with the electronics heater or not when I'm driving or come home from driving that thing is covered in salt spray from underneath to the engine comp. The crap gets everywhere.
I had an older Corvette for a long time , it was a 72 LT1 convert. the car was nice when I bought it , but has rust on the frame . I bought this stuff at a local hardware store that was in a spray can and what you did if the was flaked rust underneath was to scrape it off and if it was surface rust you just sprayed it , and it turned it black and stopped the rust. I did it the first year I bought the car and had it for like 17 years on it looked as good as the day I put it on and it did stop the rust from ever coming back and my under carriage looked mint . This was also not a rubberized coating type of thing , you really could not tell it was even on there. Granted it was never driven in winter and was stored in winter but there always was a lot of condensation on the car because of our temp. swings and it stayed perfect. This was also for metal undercarriage , NOT body panels. I plan on doing something like that to the 4R this summer once it gets warmer and using a rubberized coating on the underneath part of the body area ( floor of the truck )
