I want to tint for my 4runner as well.. thank you for the write up. I also need the front strip on the windshield cuz I sometimes I get gaps in my sun visors.
1 question did you guys do the rear hatch as well ???
I need to do this soon cuz summer is coming and its gets super hott inside a all black car.

Just wish the back was darker. I just did my CNG Tahoe in 15% on everything and it's perfect. Comes with the factory rears like the T4R.

Just wanted to add my experience here. Just got my front windows tinted with Suntek Standard Pro at 15%. It matches pretty well from the outside but you can tell that its slightly darker than the rears. From the inside its extremely apparent that the shades of the windows are different.

My previous car was 20% all around and my girlfriends car is 15% all around on a small hatchback. I never had any problems driving those cars at night. Another thing to note is that those previous photos were taken during rain and overcast weather. It looks darker from the outside than is actually is from the inside. Heres what it looked like with some early morning sun. I've decided to get the rear windows tinted to match the front since its clearly darker on front once the sun is out.

i went with 20% all around. well i thinks its actually 18%. some times at dark crossing in the middle of the night out in the country i'll have to roll a window down to be sure, but generally i don't find it "unsafe". you just need to be a bit more dilligent and mindful which is actually a good thing.

I just got my front windows done in 35% Madico Charcool. They, too, result in a greenish hue when compared to the stock rear tint.
What is a fix? Go back and get the rest of the vehicle done in the same stuff just to darken it up and hide the green, or eat the cost? I'm not sure what other options the tint shop has, and I understand the solar green is built into the glass itself.

so here are some pics of my tints that i just got installed. I went with 3m tint color stable at 35%. you can still see that the back windows have a redish hue and the front are still greenish its close but still enough to bother me. depending on the direction of sun it can look different. But i can say that 35% is the perfect amount of darkness for when driving at night

I didn't have a say on tinting my T4R because it was tinted my the distributor (Gulf States Toyota) before delivery, but they supposedly used 3M tint. Like some of you here, the light transmission is about the same but there is a slight greenish hue to the tint compared to the rear factory tint. Not really noticeable until I take a picture like this:
I opted to go with 20% front tint, stock rears. I think it matches about as close as possible given most tint options out there. I opted to go this route since I wanted the sun protection first, security second, and finally appearance. Driving at night has not been a problem for me. Product is the Llumar ATC 20%.

The fronts do have a slight green tint, but this will be the case with any factory glass that has the green tint impregnated in the glass. Of course, sun angle, sunroof open/closed, etc will always have some effect on how tint appears. I find the front to only appear slightly darker than the rear depending on background i.e. a lighter background behind the vehicle will show this difference.

My .02:
1) If you are looking to get your windows tinted, you owe it to yourself to checkout ceramic tints. That stuff is absolutely amazing. The heat rejection really makes a difference if you live anywhere warm.
2) I was always in the group of people that gave no sh*ts about tinting below the legal limit, until I got ticketed for it. $300 worth of ceramic tint had to be stripped out for a state re-inspection. Now, I only tint to the legal limit. The heat rejection on a 50% ceramic tint out performs any carbon limo tint you can find.

I was going to go with ceramic for better heat rejection, but it was noticeably the worst color match. I ended up with using less expensive 20% carbo tint on the fronts only. The tint level matched perfectly even though the math doesn't add up. From the outside the color match is also perfect, but from the inside on a bright day you notice the greener front windows.
