my 2014 4runner Tint, thoughts and advice

Anyone in Texas think it's worth going over the factory rears with Air80/90 or 30% ceramic to prevent heat buildup inside?

Considering doing Llumar CTX Air80 windshield, 30% fronts and factory rears.

Slightly more concerned with color match than I am heat.

I just had mine tinted, I did 5% up front and 15% on top of the factory tinted rear. I don't notice a greenish tint.

I went ahead and did 35% all the way around, with a clear ceramic shield on the windshield. It helps a lot considering we have black "leather".

I finally had the 4Runner tinted today after a long debate and researching the best percentage combo for my needs. I decided to go with the Llumar CTX 35% for the front two windows, 50% for all of the rear windows and airblue 80 for the sunroof. I wasn't trying to match the back color but wanting more of the benefits from the nano-ceramic tint. It was a bright sunny day, and I noticed an instant difference in comfort after the 4Runner was tinted.

30% 3M Premium on front two windows only. Against a light background, I can see the greenish hue. But from most vantage points, it matches pretty well.

From the inside, the green hue is apparent also.

Went with Llumar ceramic (ctx I believe) medium (30-35) on all windows (minus windshield).

Green hue is definitely present but I'm OK with it. Settle down OCD, settle down :whip2:

I originally did dark (15-20) on the fronts and it looked great from the outside but the inside drove me nuts. Looked the the rear wasn't even tinted.

Just for others reference.

I just got Llumar CTX30 on the front and CTX40 in the rear.

You can still see through the rear depending on your viewing angle and the immediate difference in interior temp was great, along with also being able to see the radio better.

Looks great. Can you post some photos from inside showing how the front and rear side windows look comparatively?

Here you go. No complaints from this set up. I would not go any darker in the rear for night driving purposes and you could probably go down in the front to 20 or darker, but the legal limit here is 27 so I stuck with 30 for the fronts.

Do note that my rear windows are cracked in these photos.

Here you go. No complaints from this set up. I would not go any darker in the rear for night driving purposes and you could probably go down in the front to 20 or darker, but the legal limit here is 27 so I stuck with 30 for the fronts.

Do note that my rear windows are cracked in these photos.

Okay thanks so much! My favorite shop here uses formula 1 pinnacle which is basically the same thing as CTX. Same company and all. I have it on my tacoma and CTX on another car, and they are almost identical imo. Anyways, we have a limit of like 24% or so on the front doors. I like how yours looks. I know they offer 30%, so I think you helped me to go ahead and do the 30% on the entire truck and the air 80 again on the windshield. Thanks again!

Cool, I think that series is somehow even nicer than the CTX... I've been really happy so far.

Personally, I wouldn't go below 40 in the rear (which is what I have in the rear and 30 in the front only) because the rear is already factory stained glass and if you drive a lot at night it's pretty dark especially if there are no lights around, but to each his own! :roll:

I need to tint our AG Pro still, so timely thread. I just plan to do the front two windows to get a close match to rears. This is my wife's vehicle, and she just found out she will probably work from home 4 days a week now. If this truck sees 2K a year I'd be surprised since we have two other vehicles, plus my work car, plus a classic. It will never see snow and be a garage queen. Yep, one of the most off road capable trucks made and won't be used as intended. Sorry, but it's what she wanted. We love it though. Maybe in 20 years I'll list it on Bring A Trailer haha. It looks like 30-35% will get closest darkness wise according to the above?

I asked to have my fronts set to match to factory rear in VLT%. My shop used SunTek CIR 20% for the fronts which is actually 24%VLT.

Well I got it done. I ended up with Air80 on the whole windshield and formula one pinnacle 30% on the entire rest of the truck. Since the wife will be driving it, she made it clear that she didnt want it as dark as my truck. This came out okay though.

So how do you two like the Air 80?

The only reasons I didn’t get it were:
1 - having polarized sunglasses.
2 - lots of road construction around here and my last T4R had to have the windshield changed 2x within one year.

How is it with polarized sunglasses and is there any warranty if you have to get the windshield replaced?

It's a must imo. The polarized sunglasses thing isnt really a problem. I wear them too. The only thing you'll notice is sometimes random reflections will make other vehicles look kinda "trippy" colors lol. The place I went to gives me a reciept showing air90 so that I can have insurance replace it if they ever have to replace my windshield. We have it done on every vehicle because it gets so hot here in TX during the summer. This does seem to help some imo.

I'd say if you are on the fence, do it, especially if you can find out if your insurance will replace it if the windshield ever needs to be replaced. Other than that, you won't regret it! The only thing I wish is that theh offered a 70%, but you have to go with formula one stratos which is a step up above the pinnacle. It is offered in 70%, and I found a place down in san Antonio that will do it. Be warned though, it is a VERY blueish tint.

In my experience, the Llumar Air 80 is a must. Having had it, I'd never not have it now. It is a game changer...

Oh, and make sure to tint / film the moon roof. BIG difference...
