My 2016 T4R w/KDSS Build Thread

Started with a fresh 2016 T4R w/KDSS then added TRD Pro Shocks, wheels,and grill... Blacked out the badging on back and put on Cooper max tires... Still waiting on trail duty to to deliver my gobi stealth rack and rigid industries light bar(for 11 weeks by the way. They keep telling me next week for the last 4 weeks[emoji107]) any thoughts??

1. Please elaborate your thought process why you picked stock TRD shocks and not Bilstein 5100 ?

2. Can u use TRD shocks to level the front?

3. Did they give u more clearance for front wheels?

4. How is comfort your ride? Stiffer vs softer?

1. They are specifically tuned for 4Runner and are covered in Toyota warranty
2. It raised the front about an inch it needs another inch or so to be level but I like the look now
3. It slightly rubs occasionally but less than before
4. The big bumps handle great but small low speed bumps you can feel..

1. Stock vs TRD pro , do TRD pro feel stiffer on highway and offroad? My understanding TRD pro shocks were made for offroading so they have to return faster to keep offroad traction so it might feel now more bumpier? Or am I wrong?

2. Would you expect rubbing on stock wheels with 275/70/17 tires or TRD wheels are wider and thats why you have occasional rubbing?

3. What all parts did you need to replace shocks ( did you do just front or rear shock also)?

the coils in the TRD Pro front coilovers are softer than stock, and the shocks front and rear are firmer, digressive-valved so tuned more for high-speed, e.g., desert runs. (i haven't driven one, but) it will feel slightly firmer than stock, but still better than the stock setup. note that it uses the same stock rear coils, however.

TRD Pro wheels are actually narrower (7") than stock Trail wheels (7.5").

So the question is, which dealer has this in stock?
I Googlated the part number and only one website recognizes that part number even exists.

Nox lux is still giving the arbitrary 4-6wks delivery.

I've got the same exact truck with the TRD pro front shocks. I added a toytec .5" spacer at the top and now I sit level with a half tank of petrol and an empty vehicle. KDSS made the install a wee bit more challenging but is worth every penny... Good luck with the rest of your build!

Please confirm guys, two of you installed only front TRD pro shocks on your trail with kdss? Correct? If yes, why not rear TRD also?

Yes full TRD Pro shock upgrade.. Coil over front and reservoir rear and KDSS

Yes, same here, trd pro shocks up front for me and Bilstein 5160 rears. This is on my Trail Premium. Not sure of your next question but I chose the trail premium over the pro since the pro doesn't come with KDSS. I really wanted KDSS since I run with a roof top tent and wanted the extra stabilization KDSS offers, makes a nice difference in handling, especially with a higher cg from the roof top tent.

Are TRD front shocks adjustable, or no? If yes, what setting did you use to lift up by 1 inch?

No bump stops for me the KDSS and shock upgrade are enough so far but I have not loaded the rack or cargo area down yet though.... We shall see. No on the adjustability the just naturally lift 1inch....
