My 3rd gen

Been a member for a few years now, but never really posted any pics of my Runner. Cleaned it up this past weekend so I figured it was good time to snap a few and share. Also wanted to thank everyone who contributes on this forum - it's awesome.

1999 Limited 4WD
Automatic
Desert Dune
355,478 miles on original engine and transmission

I bought it in late 2001 with 85,000 miles and it has been my daily driver ever since. Blew a head gasket at around 315k, but my mechanic fixed it and it has been running great ever since. Never left me stranded, and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to get in and drive it anywhere in the country. Just recently replaced the original radiator - guess I got lucky, no milkshake.

All original paint except for the front bumper - it was looking pretty rough from all the bug/rock hits over the years so I had it painted last year. I have also painted the cowl, front wiper arms, rear air deflector, license plate surround, bumper cover and hitch, and am in the process of painting over all the horrible fake wood grain trim on the interior.

Only off-roading it sees is the occasional forest service road when I'm on a mountain biking or hiking adventure. Best vehicle I've ever owned by far, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

beautiful-350 strong. should be in a Toyota commercial. Though, I don't recall ever seeing a commercial for Runners -

Funny you mention that because just a couple weeks ago I was talking to a buddy of mine (also a 3rd gen owner) about how we've never seen a commercial for a 4Runner - ever. If I had a dime for every Camry commercial I've seen in my life I could retire comfortably.

Monty,

Nice ride. Now all your need is that swamp buggy in your driveway. I'd imagine it has lower miles than yours. Two is always better than one 4runner.

I have to ask how the headgasket went, or what caused it? I have never heard of one for a 99, but there is always a first.

I saw one a couple years back. It was a certified preowned commercial with a 3rd gen in it boasting about 190k miles LOL...

Nice truck! Very clean :thumb3:

 Yeah, that would make the perfect sidekick!

Honestly, I couldn't tell you. He tried to explain it to me but I lost interest pretty quickly. For the most part I'm one of those guys who just wants to know how much it will cost and when it will be ready for me to drive again. He's been my mechanic for over 20 years and has taken care of this one since day one and I trust him with it 100%.
