My 4runner Damaged!!

Arrgghhhh! While camping in South Lake Tahoe this weekend, I let my fiancee drive the 4runner while I rode in the pickup bed of my buddy's 2005 tacoma from the campsite to the lake. I was enjoying the rare sight of seeing my 4runner following behind us when at a narrow part of the trail, we had to squeeze by a truck pulling a boat headed in the other direction. it was pretty sketchy, as the trail was very narrow, with hills on one side where the boat was, and a steep cliff on the other side where we were with no railing. the tacoma i was riding in barely made it past. The 4runner wasn't so lucky as the steel wheel cover of the boat trailer dug into the side of my fender and running board. My fiancee isn't used to the size of the 4runner, but I consider myself lucky that she miscalculated on the side of the boat and not the cliff side! It's a pretty awful thing to helplessly watch from a distance, your own truck get crunched. The damage wasn't as bad as I thought, but as you can see from the pic, I need a new driver side front mud flap, running board, and touch-up paint. Someone have silver running boards they don't need??

Sorry for what happend to your 4Runner, but i think there is one of the link in this forum direct you to ebay for what you are looking for.

That really does suck but at least she wasn't really hurt (car and girlfriend). Plus, I'd gladly allow that to happen once to my car (and fix it, of course) if I had the opportunity to camp at Lake Tahoe whenever I wanted!

That sucks but just lose the running boards anyway, the new Runners don't sit very high and appear to be more cosmetic or useful to people under 4 and a half feet tall.

Yikes ! Sorry to hear about the damage but glad you are both ok. Bear in mind that you have the Limited running boards so you will need ones off a Limited with the lights on them if you want everything matched up..

Probably just me, but I like the look of the 4Runner (3rd and 4th gen) with running boards, though I rather have the black ones than the silver.

The other use for the boards (particularly non-painted ones): they'll be the first thing the front doors of most cars will hit when opened in a parking lot.

Good point but I off road a bit and the running boards would be the first thing damaged but I'll soon have sliders to give me some protection from rocks and those pesky people that don't know how to open doors.:p

Ouch - that part is $450 on Partznet btw - diagram there looks like it would be fairly easy to fix but I think you would need the part sprayed as well - most of those parts come bare to be painted to your vehicle's colour.

yeah, i noticed that. if i can't find someone with a sliver limited who has sliders and wants to sell their stock running board, i may just go ghetto and put some gray silicone sealant in it and call it a day! :(

I thought the same thing until somebody with a new white Cadillac STS slammed my passenger side door. You would think someone with that nice of a car would be a little more cautious .

I used to think the same thing, but I've found that careless jerks seem to drive all sorts of cars.

Was it the front door of the STS? I know that we have very little protection from the rear doors, but I was hoping that the boards were high enough to block most car doors.

I am in the bay area and have my old LTD silver running boards. They did do some hard time, but you might be able to make a proper set from the lot.

Let me know.
