My 4Runner got broken in to...

Hey guys, It happened to me too.... I go out to the 4Rnr to go eat and my pass. rear window is busted out. 2 huge dents from where the theifs missed with whatever they were throwing, and my subwoofers, box and amp are all gone! Campus police are a joke and get this... no security cameras in the parking deck! so 1000 bucks gone without a trace... i'll get pics tomorrow...

as much as it does suck, your stereo is wide out in the open, uncovered and parked in a campus lot...

but as for the people who jacked you, you can only believe in what goes around comes around.

look on ebay and pay attention to any public boards on campus about subs for sale.

and the break in shots, I found this guy with a 4runner pretty close to mine, so i parked beside him, hoping to run into him and tell him about t4r.org,



i was parked on the 2nd level, but i think they used a brick wrapped in a paper towel to break my window...and then threw the brick over the side...



glass and paper towels, the cop said they used them so it wouldn't like make a crash noise? breaking glass is going to make a noise? cop was an idiot btw...



dents wher they missed... this really just hurt my feelings here... if you must steal, be accurate with your bricks...

This really makes me upset because I worked hard for everything that I have put into and on this truck, I pay for the thing, and being 18 that's all i have... Now I have to pay a $500 deductible to get the window fixed, I'm in college how am I gonna come up with $500? Err... If I found out whodunit, I'm gonna need someone's phone numbeer to come bail me outta jail...

Hey do what i did. Just goto any junk yard and you can get that glass under $100, Guaranteed. They broke the smaller one on mine, but I bought that for $40 from the same junk yard where i bought my Quarter Panel glass(bigger than window glass) for $100. I'm sure you can get it cheaper. And you can easily install it yourself. If you need help. You can find pix on forums, if not, PM me and i;ll open mines up just to show u pix.

Bright Side: @ least you can get the system back through insurance. I didn't have one so, you are still in good shape. But from now on, Just use a better hiding technique. Good Luck man.

They were kids, thats why they broke the big glass and with a brick. By now, they probably would have sold it for couple of hundred dollars.

But i can understand the frustration.

What happened to you was just wrong, no doubt about that. But when I have some young xgen punk drive up along side of me with those obnoxious subwoofers beating so that EVERYONE can hear them just makes me want to puke.

The moral of the story is to never leave that much stuff in your truck in plain sight like that. College campuses are especially bad about this - big parking lots/decks, not many people around, and most people don't use their car every day.

People will pop a window for as little as the change in the ash tray. Put away and get out of sight your brand-name sunglasses, radar detectors, iPods, GPS units, cell phones, and anything else that is easy to grab and worth any amount of money. Hide the stereo equipment so that you can't see it (or any wires leading to it), and remove the faceplate from the head unit.

Although personal property can be replaced by insurance (up to a certain dollar amount), the damage to the car itself is often even more sickening. This story is an example of the damage that can be done by one or more total amateurs. Don't tempt these people by letting them see something of value.

:iagree:. That's typically the case with theives, they always damage more than take. My coworker had his two headrest monitors ripped out of his SC400. They tore the ribbon cable when the pulled the monitor from its casing in the headrests. They also just ripped off the fold-out monitor on his Eclipse headunit. I told him that I didn't think they wanted to steal his stuff, just destroy it.

Many times, theives just break-in because it's an easy opportunity or a snatch and grab. By my work, in the alley, there is always broken glass. Last weekend, a car was broken into and the owner didn't do anything they ransacked the car again by the next morning (the hole in the glass got bigger and all interior compartments were opened). Even an undercover police car (had strobes on the dash) got broken into. (Yeah, it sucks, I worked over the holiday.)

Kregg, sorry to hear about your losses. I hope you'll be able to return your 4Runner in its previous condition and those d*****bags get what they deserve. Karma's a b***h.

Depends on what your policy is, and who you are with. You may be fully insured, but things like electronics valued over $500 may not be covered. It always helps to read the fine print. Defiantly call your agent, and if it isn't, I recommend finding an insurance broker, little do people know that smaller insurance companies often offer much better coverage for a better price than the big ones.

Anyone know if any full overage insurance covers valuables when a break in occurs?

It was a long time ago, but my experience has been that the auto policy covers a very low dollar amount for personal property. Instead, the bulk of the coverage came from the homeowners' policy, as that's where you're paying a premium based on the value of personal items.

Reading the fine print of my current auto policy with State Farm, it looks like that hasn't changed. The "comprehensive" coverage (not collision or liability) includes $200 for "clothes and luggage" damaged by a long list of things *excluding theft*. For theft, they'll only pay that $200 if the entire car is stolen!

Different insurance companies may handle this differently, of course.

Kids at college who otherwise normally live at home with their parents are probably covered by their parents' homeowners policy. If the auto insurance doesn't cover this theft, try that route.
