My 4runner got totaled :-(

Man I am sorry to hear that, I know how attached we all can get to our vehicles (especially a 3rd gen 4runner) but I'm happy to hear your family is alright.

My brother has totaled 2 4runners this year, first a 3rd gen when he hit black ice coming down a mountain and spun out into a Telephone pole and Fence (kept him from sliding down a ravine.) And 2nd a Gen4 when a motorcyclist that was street racing crossed into his lane and hit him near head on! Amazingly the motorcyclist walked away, but his truck was totaled!

If there's one thing to be happy about its that these trucks can do a decent job of protecting our loved ones when something like this happens.

Good luck on the hunt for a new one, my brother loved his Gen 4, and as we all know the Gen 3's are great too, if you stick with one of those I don't think you can go too wrong.

Glad your family is ok. Seeing how the runner held up gives me a little more confidence in protecting my 3 yo.

At least you got a nice wire spoke hubcap out of the deal.

damn, at least they are ok. What are you thinking of replacing it with? My vote would be a 4th gen v8 4x4 or used GX 460/470...

I would like to buy your Front Bumper!!!! :bump::clap2:

Your radiator looks pretty nice too :)

Glad your family is safe!

I'm sure you're kidding, but I do actually have a set of new bumper components I'm looking to sell, since I never got a chance to install my new bumper before this was totaled. I don't have the fasteners, since I managed to cancel that order before it shipped. PM me if interested.

I'm about 95% sure we're going to go with a 2003 V8 4x4 that a family member has. I don't need to do serious off-roading, maybe be able to handle some really rough forestry roads, but nothing severe. I'd ideally prefer another 3rd gen, mainly because I already know how to work on them pretty well, but a 4th gen shouldn't be substantially different (plus the price is right). I'm excited to experience the V8.

My almost 3 yo came out completely unharmed, so I was very happy with the outcome. The rear seating area appeared untouched, although the seatbelt appeared tweaked a little.

The hubcap is my trophy. I'm putting it on my garage wall. lol

Just curious, how do we think the 4Runner would have fared with the bumper installed? 45-50 is still probably into the totally category, eh?

I suspect it would still be totaled. My wife had an earlier minor fender bender with a tundra and it crushed the old bumper (I had to cut it off with a sawzall). That's why I didn't have one on there. The bumpers appear to smash pretty readily.

The adjuster set the base price, which I agree with more or less, at $5200. He opened with an offer of $3600 after a $200 deductible, making for a reduction of $1350 for condition issues. I'm pushing for $4500 - $200 deductible.

In my opinion, they're being a bit harsh on the body, dash, driver's door, and especially the transmission and engine. They're saying the trans and engine have 'sig. fluid buildup', but the transmission is clean except for grease flung off the driveshaft and the engine compartment is pretty clean too, with only minor oil, if any. I'm not even sure how they came up with 'significant permanent marks' on the dash, considering it basically exploded due to the airbags. I'm insisting that they cover my aftermarket ext. transmission cooler (just $60, but they're supposed to cover aftermarket parts) and I'd like them to cover the newish radiator ($150 in Jan), but I'm not optimistic on the radiator. I'm going to push for tax, title, and registration costs as well.

They're sending a guy back to re-evaluate it. The adjuster says he's 'advocating for me' - but I don't think I'd stake my life on that. Anyway, we're really only haggling about $600, small potatoes, but it would help when getting into my next vehicle.

I hate this happened, but as far as the 4th gen's go, I love mine. I have a 96 and a 08 and the 08 is my favorite.

This was me two weeks ago :( I'm in the same boat right now dealing with insurance.. Already got low-balled once.. now its been two weeks and I haven't received another offer yet.. but they are still paying for my rental so they can drag their feet I guess..

Hey!!!! How did you get your 4Wheel Steering?!?!??! That must be great for mountain trails. (Sorry, Too Soon??)
Honestly though.... seeing pics like this kills me. Next day off I want to take mine in to the insurance company and see if and what I want for coverage. I have full coverage on it, but that won't cover all the extras that's on it.

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know what kind of coverage people like us should be carrying?

No, its not too soon, that back housing axle tube got jacked!

I had full coverage, and I learned that the extras wouldn't have been covered. BUT.. since it wasn't my fault the other insurance company should pay. You can get additional coverage for your add on items. I think you basically tell them how much in add-ons you want covered and they charge you based on how much you tell them. My cousin did this for his FJ60.

Wow Sorry to hear that. Glad your family is ok. Trying to part out some of the parts may not be a bad idea. Especially if your insurance low balls. You may can make some more off it. Its only gonna go to a junk yard where they will do the same thing. I would call a lawyer about the accident. Especially since you have a total and will have medical bills. The other driver should be held accountable for everything he caused.
