My 4Runner:
1998 SR5 with 5vz-fe, 5 Speed Manual, ADD 4WD system, with 229K miles, currently 267k
Original final Gear ratio 3.909, Current 4.33
Life time MPG 19.65 with 145 fuel up
Best MPG 24.8, Worse MPG 16.4
Original tire size on door sticker 225/75/15 (Circumference 88.87")
Tires that came on the 4Runner when brought 265/70/16 (Circumference 96.15)
-MPG calculation is by method of resting the Trip meter at fill up. During the next fill up I will take the miles driven since last fill up divided by gallons filled.
(This would only work if you top off every time and will be more accurate if you use the same station and pump station every time.)
-Compensation to tire size difference have been calculated out, by using the original tire size found on the door sticker, find the circumference, then divide it by the circumference of the new tire will give you a percentage. For example my current set up 285/70/17 Circumference 102.76, original 225/75/15 Circumference 88.87"
88.87/102.76= 0.8648.... That is a 8.6% bigger tire
When calculation fuel mileage (miles driven x 1.08) / Gallons filled = MPG
-My drive cycle usually includes 75% hwy 25% city (hwy cruise speed at about 65mph to 70mph)
With some off roading in the weekend
-When I first brought the 4Runner in Aug 5th 2009 265/70/16 (Circumference 96.15)
Avg after 3 fill up 18.166 MPG
-Tune up (spark plugs, universal joint, Timing belt, brakes, air filter, fluid changes), Gill guard added, 3 inch OME lift added, upgrade tires to 265/75/16 Nitto Terra grappler (Circumference 99.43)
Avg after 27 fill up 19.44 MPG
-Change to 255/85/16 (Circumference 103.88), gear change to 4.33 gear ratio(has no effect on milage reading because speed reading is taken off ABS sensors)
Avg after 19 fuel up 19.48 MPG
-Rola Roof basket with extention, 4 Hella 500 in front of basket, 8 LED fog lights, and 2 Hella 550 in the back added
Avg after 7 fuel up 18.14 MPG
-Roof basket off, LC 9.25 wraps added, ARB front bumper and warn 5000 winch, Tundra brakes, tires and wheel change to 285/70/17 Nitto Terra grappler (Circumference 102.76)
Avg after 12 fill up 20.83 MPG
-Manual locking hub installed, new front bearings, new ball joints
So far just one fuel up 22.6 MPG
