My 4Runner's New Sibling

I love looking at these pics., and your parents' new truck??? WOW!
Hey! Yours isn't too shabby, either!

BTW, the 4-runner I just turned in, had a rear spoiler similar to yours, and my new one has the same spoiler as your parent's truck. I love the new spoiler.

Mine just has small, black dots to indicate where the crossbars should be to minimize wind noise. I'm not sure if they even peel off... they might be painted on...

that's funny, mine has small white dots to indicate where the crossbars are suppose to be. i just noticed them while putting up the yakima racks last week..

Mark86,

I just got a call yesterday that my truck hit port. A salsa red limited V8 with the same option package as your parents. The dealer told me it is the only one (with these options and color) in my region (who knows). Within a week or so I should take delivery. I have a couple questions.

I noticed you listed the radio being a 6 cd changer, was that part of the nav. option or a separate option?

Is there a cassette player?

The nav. option lists 8 speakers, where are they located and is there a sub-base?

I noticed the nav. says “Voice Navigation”, does it take voice commands or just a voice giving directions?

What brand tires came on the truck?

You have driven both V8s, could you tell us a little about the differences, if any?

Talk to your parents and set up a drag race, you could settle the question of weather it was worth the wait! lol

What do you think about the rear air suspension? Does it change the ride?

Thanks for any info you could provide, this is my first 4Runner.

Congrats on the new 4Runner. Believe me, you will really enjoy it.

The 6 CD changer is a dealer installed option. We put it in the center console and it does not take up that much room. I think it could also go in the cargo area.

The Nav for 2005 does not have a cassette player. You have a slot for the nav DVD and a slot for one CD,

There are two speakers on each front door, one on each back door, one on the center of the dash, and I don't know where the other one is. There is a sub in the side panel of the trunk.

I had that same question about the nav too!! It only gives you voice commands. You can't talk to it and also there is no bluetooth.

The truck came with the Bridgestone's. We asked the dealer if they could put on a set of Michelin's but none of the other 4Runner's had the Michelin's. The Bridgeston's are good tires, not as good as Michelin but better than the Dunflops on my Sport.

There is definitely more power in the new V8. You fell it throw you back in your seat more and off the line acceleration is definitely better than the previous V8. In my opinion, it was worth the wait!!

I want to set up a drag race but I don't if they would want it!! I will try when their truck gets a little older.

The rear air suspension is a really cool feature. If you tow or want to lower the rear for easier loading, it is great. I don't know if it affects the ride allall. The Limited is definitely a quieter and smoother ride than my sport but I think that is from the better tires!

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Mark86,

Thanks for the info. I think I read somewhere you could buy a microphone and switch to enable voice commands. When I take delivery I will check into it. Also, I'm in NJ so maybe we could test the V8s when I get mine.

.....Measuring from the top (the beginning of the actual roofrail from the rear), it is 5 7/8 inches and 33 inches.
My '03 with Silver Racks has an impression silver dot inside the rail at 11-13/16" from the front & 7-3/4" from the rear. I posted more details and pics in the thread linked in my signature.

Haven't even driven it yet, but I'll let you know. Since I have a moonroof, I think I have a decent amount of noise coming through there, so if there is a change I should be able to hear it.

I think a big test will be to try the Yakima crossbars at these different locations. Those bad boys put out a lot of noise and vibration.

Well, I just got back from driving it and it does seem quieter, but above 75 mph I am still getting quite a bit of noise. Haven't tried the Yakima yet.
