Having recently purchased this vehicle (1997) I just got roughly 300 miles to my first full tank.

Is this good/bad or average?
Also what is the tank capacity?

McVey, I was averaging around 300 miles with combined city/highway driving when I first bought my ride.

Since I have the 33's, now I'm averaging about 240 a tank.

98 4runner, 4cyl, 5spd, 4.56 gearing with 33's.

i used to get about 21/22 highway, and dropped to about 19.5 during the summer. new england has changed over to it's winter gas, and i am around 17.5 now.

for mileage, i used to get 270 miles plus on a tank, now i am at about 250 (pre calculations for bigger tires which i figured to be about 1.07 times the actual reading).

oh! and this is with 171,500 miles.

I have a bit of a leadfoot and 1" taller than stock D load range Nittos and with a bit of both highway and mostly city I average about 240+ a tank using my ECT.

In all honesty shouldn't an SUV the size of a 4Runner with a v6 get better mileage? I am sitting near Hummer territory for fuel mileage. I mean its not like this thing has a monster engine sucking down gas. It's kind of lethargic.

It does seedm like we should get more mileage from a 4Runner but 17-18 in the city is realistic but only when driven conservatively and avoiding jackrabbit starts and 80mph highway speeds.

Most SUV/trucks no matter how small don't go much further than 20mpg due to aerodynamic drag. I average a low of 15 and a high of 17.5 and it all depends on how much is highway miles,4wd use and how much I drive over 75.
I did benefit a mile or two a gallon with new plugs and a tuneup.

I usually get between 11-14 city. I wish I got 16 or better lol.

when its city drive alone I get 13, mixed with some freeway its 16.7.

i'm usually at 150-170 miles on the trip meter at half tank, thats with mostly city driving (15 mins of doing 30 mph, 5 minutes of doing 70, followed by another 15 of doing 20-30). but once it gets halfway, the needle starts dropping faster. also i'm starting to have the varying gas needle problem that i had in my old ES250.
