So I was on my way to work....
this guy said he hit me at 20mph but i am thinking it felt harder than a 20mph hit!
my rear bumper is all screwed up, my trailer light plug is wedged between the spare and frame, I think my trailer hitch is bent ( I hope my frame isn't bent) the rear door is pushed in, however it still opens and closes great, but my rear wiper doesn't touch the window. my back up lights are smashed, both bumper ends are busted.
I was able to drive away!
the other truck I think is totaled! he couldn't even turn on his hazards and the engine died on impact

so me and this guy are looking at our trucks waiting for the police and he says
"dam I am going to get a 4runner those things are tuff "

I saw this thread and your username with it in the new threads list, I hoped you were not as lucky to have jynixed yourself..

But alas.. clicking on the thread revealed exactly that.


Hope you are ok, it looks like a pretty light accident. Easy to fix.
 
Major bummer! Glad you're ok. Your 4Runner looks pretty fixable.

That Discovery didn't fare too well. The headlights popped right out and he lost a bunch of fluids. It does look like more than a 20 mph impact.
 
Should have gotten a Defender if he wanted a real Land Rover...

If I had to guess, I would say your trailer hitch took the brunt of the impact and hopefully distributed it through the frame without damaging it.

That actually looks about right for a 20~30mph impact, these modern cars just break apart when they hit pretty much anything. Crumple zones and plastic makes all safe! lol
 
Good to hear everyone was ok. I also got rear ended about a year ago, albiet, it was a toyota camry, but the result was worse for the woman texting and driving in the camry (see below). That was about a 5-10 mph impact, my bumper cover was scuffed, tow hitch bent, and tail pipe had to be replaced. After she hit me, I was in shock, then when I regrouped myself and got out to see if the other driver was ok, I looked at the damages and giggled a little bit inside.

Actually, I was happy that it happened because previously before that I got into a fender-bender with a Tour bus that messed up my left-rear quarter panel/bumper area. This accident's shop had to fix anyways to properly re-align quarter panel/bumper to the body mounts.

As I see it, you have 2 options:

1) Have their insurance do the repairs. (have them provide you a loaner vehicle for about 1-2 weeks for repairs)

2) Get an estimate yourself then have their people (insurance company) give you an estimate, agree on a number, then have them cut you a check for agreed damages to your vehicle.


My point is, since this is the other party's fault and your truck will never be the same (new/like new) again, milk it for all it's worth. ;):

Probably be a good idea to keep this out of carfax too
May be impossible with an insurance claim depending on the insurer and where the fix is done

Yes they are 4x innovations sliders I had "hound" weld them on. I'm thinking they should help reinforce the frame.

Asmara I'd see if you can get chip in the difference between the new bumper cover and having a CBI bumper installed. Might not be too much.

I did think of that I was thinking the rear bumper and hitch would be close to the same price as the cbi bumper

I am at month 3 waiting for my shrockworks front bumper so I would be pretty upset if the frame was bent and they totaled it

My head and neck didn't hurt to bad untill today
My upper back and neck hurt right away but I got checked out and nothing is wrong
 
Sorry to hear the news crashman! Glad that everyone is ok and I'm sure that it's fixable... I'm always shocked by what a decent shop can do!

Keep us posted and if you do end up needing a home for that Shrockworks bumper, let me know!

This would be your best bet.

Also, FYI: You can't use your trailer hitch anymore anyways. The rating is NULL after it has been in a collision per DOT.

Fight with insurance if they try to just throw on a new bumper and refuse to replace your hitch.

the total of both will be enough to cover the CBI!
 
Ouch sucks man! Very near my house...looks like Lodo's there on 470 and Quebec. I think you wanna make sure there is no frame damage for sure! Probably won't be but never hurts to check. Half the time I drive with my ball/hitch in place in attempt to lessen the damage in a potential rear-ending, however, I am still on the lookout for a good full protection setup.
Keep us updated.
 
Wouldn't the ball in the hitch cause more damage? Wouldn't that cause the impact be transferred to the frame?
